Throughout the campus of CCK, there are countless personal touches that make camp feel like home. Our CEO, Darren Dannelly, often reminds visitors that “everything a person is able to see at CCK is due to the kindness of another.”
Eight weeks each spring and fall, our beds are made by a dedicated group of women from the Scottsville area who volunteer as CCK bedmakers.
Ms. Beverly, a Scottsville native, has been one of those bedmakers for nearly 12 years. After retiring from Smucker’s, her friend Betty Lou told her to meet her at CCK the following Tuesday to help with bedmaking. She showed up—and has been coming back ever since.
For nearly 12 years, Ms. Beverly has been one of the loving hands helping prepare CCK’s lodges for campers. She shared how much it means that the CCK staff always make the bedmakers feel appreciated, valued and needed.
But something special has happened along the way. The bedmakers have become more than a group of volunteers—they have become a close-knit community of women who have found friendship and connection with one another.
Every Tuesday spent at CCK gives them an opportunity to catch up, share stories and strengthen the friendships they have built over the years. At the end of each bedmaking season, they celebrate their time together by going out to breakfast, marking another season of Tuesdays spent serving CCK and making camp a brighter, more welcoming place.
Every detail at CCK is done with thoughtfulness and intention. From the quilts covering each bed to the hands that carefully make those beds, every part of camp tells a story of generosity.
And that generosity creates something bigger than a beautiful camp—it creates community.
CCK doesn’t just impact campers and their families, it brings people together, gives them a place to serve, and creates meaningful connections among the many people who help make camp possible. Every made bed and every thoughtful detail is a reminder that CCK truly is built by the kindness of others.
