CUNY Callouts

Marvin Dantzler is a film and television major and a Dean’s List student who hails from Jamaica, Queens. He has reached his final year at LaGuardia Community College, but the road there was not an easy one. In his first semester, he struggled to find his place and balance responsibilities, and questioned if college was the right path for him. He took a semester off, and when he returned things became better. Because of his love for storytelling, he enrolled in LaGuardia’s film and TV program and took some classes that would change his college experience, introducing him to film club members who became lifelong friends. Today, he is the treasurer of LaGuardia’s Film Club and he loves to write scripts in his free time.

Marvin also has a passion for education. After he graduates from LaGuardia this year, he plans to pursue a major in education and a minor in communications. He aspires to be a teacher and eventually a school principal.

What is something tangible and specific you would advise current students to do to help their professional growth?

“Take some time to plan out your day and put your priorities in order, because procrastination is crazy. Also, if you don't like the major or school you’re in or school in general, switch it up and get something you like to do.”
