Because Lutherans believe in outreach:
Emanuel's once again distributed ashes to passersby in the Habitat parking lot on Ash Wednesday. Pastor Marcus reports that cars were lined up around the block when he arrived before noon. Shout out to the Seguin Gazette for their
timely article
and Emanuel's Day School for loaning us the cutest sandwich board wearers.
We are better together.

Wilder · ness
“state of the wild”
Lent begins in the wilderness. The Spirit guides Jesus into the wilderness where he comes face to face with temptation and struggle. Yet, in his forty days of fasting, resisting, and wandering, Jesus is shaped and formed for ministry. Similarly, through the wilderness of Lent, we are invited to surrender to the wild leadings of the Spirit. We rarely enter the wilderness willingly, but hopefully through our wandering we remember who we are and whose we are. The wilderness can become sacred even if it remains dangerous. There is no wilderness space too harsh or threatening for God’s love.
We encourage you to brave the wild with us. Our 2020 Lenten Devotional,
Wilderness
, is rich with weekly readings and prompts full of art, reflections, poetry, and journaling. Copies are available in the Narthex and the church office. Take time to meditate on the Sanctified Art Creative Team illustrations posted on the second floor hallway. Images will be featured at each Midday service at 12:05 p.m. with accompanying scripture and song. Holden Evening Prayer at 7:00 p.m. will guide us as the day draws to a close. This is a time for wandering and wonder.
Simple meals will be shared each Wednesday in conjunction with the Midweek Services. Please join us in the Women’s Ministry Room at 12:40 and 6:00 p.m. Appreciation to Tom Engler for organizing this needed time of community amidst the chaos of our busy weeks.
In the wilderness our faith is born, nurtured, challenged, and resurrected.
May it be so for you this season.

With your donations, assorted spring flowers will colorfully grace the sanctuary of Emanuel’s this Easter on April 12th and the gift of clean water will bless families across the globe for years to come.
Everyone deserves access to clean, safe water.
It affects everything. It means education for children, especially girls. It means time saved and spent on other activities, including earning money. It means improved health and reduced mortality. It means hope for the future. Emanuel’s Lutheran Church has taken up the challenge to raise $5000 to build a well in rural Africa. When you make a donation this Easter you are making a new life possible for more than 500 people in need.
You may honor or remember a loved one by supporting Water to Thrive (any dollar amount) and/or with a blooming plant ($15 each). Checks payable to Emanuel’s Lutheran Church.
Forms and payments may be put in an envelope and placed in the offering plate or delivered to the church office.
The deadline to ensure blooming plants for Easter and inclusion in the bulletin listing is Monday, March 30, 2020.

World Day of Prayer
March 6, 2020
“Rise! Take Your Mat and Walk”
Join Church Women United for this special event on Friday, March 6 at 2:00 PM in the Women’s Ministry Room at Emanuel’s Lutheran Church.
This year, the women of the World Day of Prayer (WDP) Committee of Zimbabwe call us to worship with the words: “Rise! Take your mat and walk” from John 5. We are invited to learn about Zimbabwe’s history and rich culture. The women share their stories of intergenerational wisdom, traditions, and experiences of God’s profound love.
The WDP 2020 program is based on Jesus’ encounter with a person who, although positioned for healing, had not acted upon the opportunities given (John 5:2-9a). Jesus asked, “Do you want to be made well?” You are faced with this life-changing question. What are you going to do? Use this opportunity to reflect with your WDP group, community and ecumenical partners. Prayer and action are what link us together around the globe.
“Rise! Take your mat and walk,” Jesus said. Our sisters from Zimbabwe are taking Jesus’ encounter to be a call to act in love for peace and reconciliation. “The action verbs suggest that we should not be afraid to act on the word of God. God is offering us the steps for personal and social transformation.” This is the time for change!
WDP’s guiding principles affirm that “prayer is rooted in listening to God and to one another.” Through the worship service, we listen to the people of Zimbabwe. They take us to their communities and through their concerns. Their everyday life is woven into their prayers. They invite us to follow prayer with action. WDP’s motto, “Informed prayer leads to prayerful action” affirms that prayer and action are inseparable and that both have immeasurable influence. Let us walk in faith and prayerful action!
