March 28

A DAY TO REMEMBER!

NO KINGS HERE!

On March 28, Mount Horeb staged a No Kings event at Liberty Park. The event was planned by the local Southwest Wisconsin Area Progressives, (SWWAP). It was a blustery day, and the organizers chose to take advantage of the shelter as a wind break. There were between 250 and 300 attendees. The now familiar “Signs of Fascism” lined Cox Drive as well as Springdale Street. Those who saw the display could ponder how many signs pertained to the destructive forces that are at work in America Today.

The program featured speakers and music selections for the times we are living through. Matt Rothschild, a former Director of Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, and Ben Gruber, Conservation Warden, spoke on the changing landscape of politics in America.

The event also featured local musicians Denny Egstad, Rebecca Dorril Thomas, Katy McGrath Morki, and Anna Morki. David Couper, former Madison Police Chief and priest, delivered a passionate poem entitled "Watershed". The program ended with attendees joining musicians to sing on the spiritual, "We Shall Overcome". After the program concluded, attendees marched down Springdale Street with homemade signs of resistance.

On March 28, in large cities and small villages, approximately 8-9 million people attended over 3,300 No Kings Rallies. It was the largest single day protest in American history!

Disagree Better - Communicating Across Political Divides

In a time when it feels like everyone is divided, The Mount Horeb Public Library invites the community to come together during their new Disagree Better: Building Connection Across Difference initiative. Designed to support constructive engagement, foster understanding, and build trust across diverse viewpoints, this multi-part program features guest speakers, discussion moderator training, and deliberation dinners which combine shared meals with guided conversations around meaningful topics.  In partnership with the Village of Mount Horeb and the Mount Horeb Area School District, Disagree Better strives to reach across generations, organizations and perspectives, with a goal of creating spaces where community members can engage with different ideas—and with each other-- in a thoughtful way. Rather than avoiding disagreement, the program encourages participants to approach differences with curiosity, respect, and care.

Thanks to all who have donated in the past,
