What's happening this week:

Well, I'm back to reality. Another wonderful year for Team Cuisine on RAGBRAI this year. The weather was absolutely perfect. 80's during the day for perfect riding and 50's at night for relaxing sleep (although I think I rode WAY more than I slept). Truly a magical week and I would especially like to thank Uncle Jerry for keeping me in line for a day. It was a great ride and I was glad we were finally able to get out and ride!

It does look like we are in for another beautiful week this week and that means a few more grilled meals!! I know that all of the school activities are ramping up this week so I am guessing that there will be some very quick meals done over the next few weeks.

And finally a quick announcement about Mike's Market hours:

We will return to closing at 5 pm during the week at Mike's Market starting on Monday August 8th. We will continue to be closed on Wednesdays and the weekend hours will not be changed. Thank you for understanding.

The Meating Place:
Sale items for Casey's Market:
(Prices good in Western Springs only)
Fresh Grillmasters
$9.98 lb.
Zinfandel Petite Shoulder Tenders
$15.98 lb.
This week we are all about the grill in the meat department starting with our most popular burger, the Grillmaster. I feel like a description of this would be something you already know because we have had this burger for over 20 years and EVERYONE comes in for them, but here is the description anyway. Our Grillmasters are a special blend of sirloin that is ground and mixed with diced onions, shredded cheddar cheese and a gourmet seasoning salt that is formed into a 1/3# patty. They truly are delicious and far and above outsells our other burger flavors. I can not imagine that you have not tried these yet, but if you have not we will not shame you but you should not miss out this week!!!

Next up this week is not only the newest cut of beef available but it is also marinated in an absolutely wonderful Zinfandel wine marinade. These delicious little cuts come from the beef shoulder (think pot roast) and have such an amazingly rich flavor that the marinade in not necessary but it certainly does help. Simply grilled for about 5-6 minutes per side over a medium heat and your mouth will be in heaven!!

Bacon Weaved Pork Tenderloins
$7.98 lb.
Sirloin Tip
Roasts
$6.98 lb.
There are a few top items in our counter that come to mind when someone asks for a suggestion for dinner and this week's first sale item is at the top of that list. The Bacon Weaved Pork Tenderloin is so darn good but really, how could it not be? They are a whole pork tenderloin that is seasoned with a BBQ seasoning and then covered in bacon. Seriously, how can that be bad? Bacon makes everything better and we are already starting with a great cut AND THEN ADDING BACON!!! I am a fan of doing these in the oven at 375 for about 45 minutes but you can also do them on the grill but make sure you use some foil or go indirect on cooking because that bacon will flare up quite a bit. Usually on the grill I do an indirect high heat for about 40-45 minutes.

Next up is everyone's favorite beef roast, the Sirloin Tip Roast. These lean cuts of meat are expertly trimmed by our wonderful butchers and then rolled with some cooking fat on the top to keep them juicy. Baked at 350 for about 15-20 minutes per pound and you will have yourself a great beef roast meal that will make everyone happy.
The Deli Doings:
Sale items for Casey's Market:
(Prices good in Western Springs only)
Casey's Own Meatloaf
$9.98 lb.
Boar's Head
Pepper Jack
$7.98 lb.
Homemade
Summer Salad
$4.98 lb.
With the start of school looming and fall activities already starting, the end of summer is right around the corner. I don't know about you, but I am not sure I am ready to give it up yet and this week's sale item shows you neither is our deli in Western Springs. The Homemade Summer Salad is made with tomatoes, cucumbers and red onions mixed with a balsamic dressing to make the best side you can serve with a nice summertime grilled meal!!
Sale items for Mike's Market:
(Prices good in Villa Park only)
Boar's Head
Oven Gold Turkey
$11.49 lb.
Boar's Head
American Cheese
$7.39 lb.
Homemade
Chicken Salad
$10.98 lb.
If there was one item that I would say our deli was first known for it was our Homemade Chicken Salad. This recipe was created over 30 years ago and we have never strayed from it. We will always use only the freshest chicken that we cook and then cut by hand in house and we will always only use Real Hellmann's Mayonnaise. That is what makes this salad so darn special but you should not take my word for it. You should come in this week and give it a try if you have never tried it. My expert opinion is to serve it on one of our fresh croissants that we get from our friends at Turano bread!
This week's words to live by:
As I reflect on my time in Iowa, this seemed appropriate:

Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don't complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don't bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake Up and Live!
