Park Update

As of today, Friday, October 10, Minute Man National Historical Park remains closed due to the lapse in appropriations.

Park rangers are furloughed and public programs are suspended during this time, including special events. During the shutdown, the Park is following official directives from the National Park Service.

The Battle Road and North Bridge trails are accessible by foot or bike; however, parking lots, Visitor Centers, and bathrooms are closed.

Due to a cooperative agreement with the Town of Concord, the Monument Street lot across from the North Bridge remains open. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the fall foliage at the North Bridge or visit our friends at the Robbins House, located in the Monument St. parking lot.

We’ll keep you updated on the shutdown and ways you can help support Minute Man during this time. We look forward to the time when we can come back together at the Park!

Friends Update - We're Open!

While the Park may be closed due to the government shutdown, the Friends of Minute Man remains hard at work behind the scenes!

As a private nonprofit, we’re not affected by the shutdown, and we remain dedicated to supporting Minute Man National Historical Park and its staff.

Here’s how our work continues during this time:

  • Operations continue as usual. We can securely receive mail and donations at the address below or online—making this a great time to renew or become a member!
  • Programs are moving forward. We’re planning and supporting future events to launch once the Park reopens.
  • Off-site engagement continues. See the photo above of our recent lecture at Concord Park Senior Living.
  • Support for the Park remains strong. We’re actively advocating, fundraising, and writing grants to benefit the Park and its mission.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Executive Director, Kathleen Fahey, at director@friendsofminuteman.org with any questions.

Friends Visit the Gateway Arch

Kathleen Fahey, Executive Director of the Friends of Minute Man, attended the National Park Friends Alliance Conference this September at Gateway Arch National Park in St. Louis, Missouri.

The conference hosted hundreds of attendees committed to supporting our beloved National Parks. Kathleen had the opportunity to attend sessions on America 250, fundraising, governance, and community partnerships, and also connected with other battlefield parks.

September by the Numbers

September was a busy month for the Friends of Minute Man! Thanks to your support, we accomplished the following to benefit Minute Man National Historical Park:

  • 150 English gun flints purchased to support the popular musket-firing demonstrations.
  • 110 lights acquired to make Halloween events a little brighter (and a little less spooky).
  • 70 iris plants secured for the Buttrick Gardens, reinstating historic varieties and colors.
  • 50 lbs of cannon powder obtained to support the artillery programs.
  • 30 books on the American Revolution added to the Park interpretation staff library.
  • 4 yards of fabric procured for the historic clothing program.
  • 3 grants written to support preservation projects and programming at the Park.
  • 1 new 250th Anniversary coin designed featuring the North Bridge - sales start soon!

Thank you to our members and supporters - we couldn't do this without you!
