PEI Kids' Dream Team Podcast Launches on Spotify

You probably know about the ground-breaking work PEI Kids does counseling and providing services for vulnerable youth and child victims of crime, violence and abuse. But do you know who's doing the work behind the scenes?

On April 26th, PEI Kids launches Dream Team: a podcast series where we have conversations with the leadership team -- the people who advance PEI Kids’ mission every day and keep our organization running.

The first episode of Dream Team will feature our discussion with Executive Director, Roslyn Dashiell. In this episode, Roz shares how her experience has influenced her work at PEI Kids and the importance of having a great team.

You can check out the trailer episode of Dream Team, available now, which talks about our agency history, how the field has changed over time, and the discussions we'll be having in the coming weeks.

It's Child Abuse

Prevention Month

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and PEI Kids is proud to empower thousands of children every year to be safe and help kids heal and recover from the trauma of abuse.

Did you know...

New Jersey provides prevention education services to the second largest number of children in the country?

Through our Prevention Education programs, PEI Kids provides school-based workshops for over 5,000 students annually. Workshops cover personal safety, physical and sexual abuse, bullying/peer assault, teen mental health and more.

Following our Prevention workshops, it is not uncommon for our facilitators to receive a disclosure of abuse from a student or a request for help in a dangerous situation. These disclosures provide an opportunity to connect children with immediate intervention and support.

The Faces of Prevention

Spring means our Prevention team is in high gear delivering training to students in school districts throughout Mercer County. Our evidence-based workshops teach children how to stay safe and how to recognize and respond in high-risk and unsafe situations.

"Navigating the childhood and teen years has become more complex, and equipping our children with skills that empower them to stay safe is critical to their wellbeing," explains Prevention Director, Annette Henderson.

Training includes Child Safety Matters - a workshop series on personal safety, physical/sexual abuse, online/digital safety, and bullying prevention; and Teen Mental Health First Aid - a six-session workshop series that trains high-school students how to recognize and respond to signs of mental health challenges in friends and peers.

In March, we were thrilled to bring the team from Capital Health to MLK Jr. Middle School where they taught the kids in our Violence Intervention Groups how to perform life-saving CPR.

Thank you, Capital Health,

for being a great community partner!

In Sanskrit, Mandir means a place where the mind becomes still and experiences inner peace.

Last month, participants in our Saturday CJOOS and MAV programs had a peaceful day at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Robbinsville.

We'd like to give a special shout out to the wonderful folks at Customers Bank for stopping by to give us a round of support.

Thank you, Customers Bank, for all you do to support the great work being done in our community!

Spring flinging...

It’s getting a little warmer out! But playing outside isn’t important just because it’s fun. Playing outside can improve your kid’s mental health and cut down on their screen time.

If your kids are excited for spring, click the video link for some fun outdoor activities you can share with them right now!

Spring is a great time for new beginnings! If you’d like to help kids grow up safe and strong, consider donating today or volunteering at PEI Kids. We always need dedicated volunteers to help around the office, represent our organization at community functions, help us conduct free community workshops, and more.
