Church Membership conversation THIS SUNDAY Sept 20

Do you want to learn more about FPCP? Have you been thinking about officially becoming a member of our congregation? What even is a Presbyterian? If you've been thinking about any of all of these questions, bring your lunch or a snack and join Pastor Ekama on Sunday 9/20 after worship to learn more about the history of our church and what it could mean to join this church. All are welcome to join us for this membership interested class, whether you've been a part of this community for decades and would like a refresher or have just walked into the doors and have no idea where to start.

New members will be received in worship on Oct. 4th. If you have any questions please reach out and if you will be attending please let Pastor Ekama know!

From Pastor Ekama:

My colleagues at Riverside Church NYC and the Center for Faith and Justice have invited us to night of storytelling and sharing next Thursday 9/24! See the link below for more information and the schedule, the Thursday Night keynote looks like a packed house of story sharers including Ira Glass and Priya Parker! I If you'd like to attend, we've been gifted the code GUESTTRC for free registration.

As someone who LOVES complaining, I always feel connected to biblical stories of complainers, especially when the people of God are complaining at God. Can you think of anything more human? In our Hebrew scriptures we'll dive back into the story of Moses and the now free Israelites and remind ourselves how they respond to God's gift of freedom.

September continues to be chugging along, I hope you all are enjoying these last few days of summer (Autumn equinox is on Tuesday!!). There is so much going on in our lives and in the world, so I want to invite you to take it slow and be gentle with yourselves.

See you soon!

Ekama

Announcement from Elder Laura Reid:

IPP Sunday September 27th

We’ll have a special guest joining us at our service on Sunday, September 27th. Elizabeth Friend-Ennis, Executive Director of the Interfaith Prison Partnership (IPP), will speak to us about the recent activities of this organization. IPP is an official partner of the Hudson River Presbytery, and their main focus is ensuring that the women incarcerated in the two Bedford, NY prisons know that they are not forgotten. Our church has supported IPP and their holiday care package program and more recently we’ve been helping with “release bags” — tote bags filled with necessities that are given to women once they have completed their sentences and are leaving prison. Many of these women are released to homeless shelters. The IPP effort ensures that that these women at least have things like socks, soap, toothpaste, a hand towel, etc. available to them as they begins their life post- prison. Every bag also includes a personal note of support. After the service on 9/27 an assembly line of products for release bag assembly will be set up in our social hall and we’ll all be invited to spend a few minutes to create a release bag. We think we’ll have enough products on hand to assemble 50 bags. Hope you can join us!
