Ambulance Service Enterprise Updates, Building Height Limit Petition, Opioid Addiction Funding, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • El Paso and Teller counties will benefit from $66 million in grants to deal with opioid addiction. This money will be doled out through 2038. The government’s answer to any problem is to throw buckets of money at it. Do you think this will help curb opioid abuse in our area? Also, does the fentanyl flowing freely across the border make grants like this less helpful overall?

  • The City of Colorado Springs is offering an interesting opportunity to learn about how the Public Works Department strategizes various activities. If interested, you can sign up here.

  • Citizens of Colorado Springs are gathering petition signatures to put a downtown building height limit on the November ballot. We encourage all residents who prefer to keep mountain views to sign the petition.

  • The City of Colorado Springs's initiative to have residents host 1,000 Neighborhood Gatherings has kicked off to great fanfare.

  • Colorado Springs ranks as the third best place to live in the United States according to a recent study.

  • The Mayor of Monument has spent over $100,000 in taxpayer funds to defend himself in a lawsuit. And he’s not finished yet.

  • State lawmakers took $2.8 billion from your TABOR refunds this legislative session. They truly believe that your wealth and income belong to them, and it’s their birthright to take it back.

  • Additionally, the legislature raised fees on oil and gas producers by $285 million in order to help Polis build his 19th-century dream train.

  • Governor Polis vetoed a small portion of bills that were passed this session. But, don’t worry, many bills passed and will become law. Then we’ll all be safe and rich and happy.

  • Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade addressed public safety concerns in a recent press conference. The topics of police and the changing ambulance service were addressed.

  • Speaking of the ambulance service restructure, The El Pomar Foundation will loan the city $1 million to go towards setting up a city-run ambulance service enterprise. Mayor Mobolade states that this enterprise will not be funded with taxpayer dollars. It’s supposed to fund itself. So are the speed cameras. Let’s see how this goes.

  • AMR Ambulance, which has provided ambulance services to the city for decades, is pushing back on Mayor Mobolade’s plan by calling the city’s financial estimates inaccurate. The Mayor suggests that they are desperate.

  • Denver will spend big taxpayer money on security for city buildings, as well as homeless and illegal immigrant shelters.

  • Summer is right around the corner. Along with summer, comes increasing gasoline prices.

  • Is the supposed housing crisis in Colorado due to a shortage of houses overall or due to a shortage of basic starter houses in the $300,000 range? One recent study indicates the latter.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!
