Exciting News! Office on Aging Partnering with ServingTogether to Assist Veterans
The Calvert County Office on Aging will team up with ServingTogether beginning in August 2024.
ServingTogether’s trained Care Coordinators assist veterans and their families with benefits navigation and connect them to other resources.
No appointment is necessary. Drop in at the Southern Pines Senior Center every second Wednesday and fourth Friday of the month from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Drop-ins are welcome and highly encouraged!
Mark your calendars for the following ServingTogether events:
The Valhalla Sailing Project provides wounded, disabled and separating veterans the sense of teamwork and camaraderie they may be missing in civilian life through competitive sailboat racing.
The Valhalla Sailing Project is a 501c(3) nonprofit based in Annapolis with one mission: to prevent veteran suicide. Check out their website for upcoming clinics, and email VSP@ValhallaSailing.org to find out how you can help with their clinics, from shore support and coordination to sailing instruction.
Channel Your Support for Local Veterans
Do you want to support veteran-focused charities but are not sure where to start?
We have a few tips to help you ensure your contributions positively impact veterans and their families!
Identify Your Interest: Decide if mental health, job training, housing, healthcare, family support or wounded warrior programming is most important to you.
Research Nonprofits: Look for organizations with a clear mission statement and a solid commitment to veterans' well-being.
Evaluate Impact: Review each nonprofit's programs, success stories and outcomes.
Check Financial Health: Use sites like Charity Navigator and GuideStar to review the financial health, transparency and accountability of the group(s) you want to support.
Consider Local Impact: Local organizations often better understand the unique needs of veterans in their area and offer tailored support.
Engage with the Nonprofit First: Contact them about their programs, volunteer opportunities and how they utilize donations to build trust before committing your support.
Consult Trusted Sources:Seek recommendations and feedback from veterans, military families or community leaders.
Thank you on behalf of the Veterans Affairs Commission. Your generosity significantly impacts those who have served our country when directed effectively.
