Wildcat Wellness
On Monday, June 5th, Officer Pope had the chance to meet with the 2023 6th grade class. He spoke with them on wellness topics to prepare them for their transition to the Middle/Senior High School next year.
Officer Pope covered student empowerment, mental health, situational awareness, CPR/First Aid, the dangers of illegal drugs, bullying, the role of law enforcement within our community, and social pressures. All important topics to be educated on in order for students to be aware and prepared to make the best decisions in difficult positions they may find themselves in.
The WB Police Department stated, "This was an excellent and engaging group of students who are very eager to learn! We hope you all have an incredible summer break! Great job, Wildcats!" Thank you Officer Pope for your time and knowledge!

Historical Tidbit:
Hayward Dairy Farm
|
Thomas Hayward, first generation of the Hayward family, moved his family to the approximately 90-acre plot of land in Bridgewater in 1651. Four generations later, Daniel Hayward built the home pictured above.
With such a large area of land, the Hayward family created the Hayward Dairy Farm. For 300 years, the land was home to a large herd of cows and the Hayward's sold glass bottles of milk to surrounding residents and towns. The business came to a stop when door-to-door delivery was replaced with grocery stores.
This property was owned by 10 generations of Haywards, until the area was sadly sold in 1974. The plot of land has been owned by several families and farmers since the Haywards and is currently known as Vineyard Farm. The farm hosts fun seasonal events and activities and sells fresh produce, flowers, and treats!

Climate Can-Do: Start Your
Own Garden
With summer and the warmer weather approaching, gardening is a fun project for your family and yourself to work on together. Whether you have a green thumb or not, gardening is a great and simple hobby to take up. It also has many benefits for yourself and the Earth.
All plants go through the process of photosynthesis, which is when plants intake water and the atmosphere's carbon dioxide. In return, the plant releases fresh oxygen for us to breath and enjoy. Therefore, more plants result in more oxygen, a crucial element our bodies need!
In addition to improving our environment, gardening is proven to improve your mental health as well. Gardening has been found to lower stress and anxiety levels, as well as increase mindfulness and gratification. The Mayo Clinic Health System Website states that "It's very gratifying to plant, tend, harvest and share your own food. Routines provide structure to our day and are linked to improved mental health. Gardening routines, like watering and weeding, can create a soothing rhythm to ease stress."
The National Agricultural Library Website has numerous resources from gardening tips to factsheets about every vegetable or flower you may be interested in planting. The website highlights that, "A well-kept vegetable garden is a source not only of profit to the gardener but of pleasure to the entire family."

Spring Wreath Craft with the Council on Aging
Tuesday, May 23rd, the West Bridgewater Council on Aging hosted fun wreath crafting event. The COA organizes crafting once or twice a month. There is typically a large turn out, and all those that attend make a craft together and have lots of fun.
During this event, participants created colorful spring wreaths out of rags and bows. Two weeks prior, on Friday, May 12th, the group created paper cutouts of Uncle Sam to prepare for Memorial Day. Every month or two, these events and more are in the Council on Aging newsletters. The newsletters can be found here: COA Activities and Events.
Thank you to the Council on Aging for always providing our seniors with a fun time, and to the Trustees For The Home For Aged Men in the City of Brockton for providing a grant to fund these crafting events! We are excited to see this month's scheduled: flower arranging on Friday, June 23rd and sign making on Tuesday, June 27th. Registration prior to these events is required to attend.

I always loved summer school with my boys ... the geography of rocks and biology of trees; glacial formations and mountains; the energy of a warm fire and the transformation of matter when cooked on.
Marine biology and earth sciences in watching the tides and digging sand; the physics of wind in the sails and the pedal turns of our bicycles. Painting & craft projects while sitting in the shade of a tree. Yup, summer is a real STEAM education! Enjoy! ~ Jacquie
