Dear Southern Door Community,
This has certainly been a week to go down in the recordbooks as our community dealt with the snow and frigid temperatures. While decisions to close school are not made lightly, the wind chill warning and state emergency heightened the need to keep students and staff safe. We continue to monitor the forecast and do our best to give a timely announcement that allows parents to plan. At this time, we have enough instructional minutes in our calendar that we will not need to make up any of the days we missed this week. Thanks to everyone for your patience as we continue to navigate being a part of Wisconsin winters and keeping everyone safe.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the men and women who have been working hard on the roadways in our city and county so people who need to get out are able to do so. We also thank all the emergency personnel in the sheriff's department, fire departments, and emergency response teams who brave the cold to assist us with our safety and health needs. We also give a "big thank you" to Dan Viste, Maintenance & Transportation Director and his custodial & bus driver teams, for all their extra efforts on days like this to ensure that our facility and transportation needs are met.
This week also brought us the news that the Slezewski family's high school aged son, Griffin, was diagnosed with leukemia. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Slezewski family, and to
all who may be facing struggles of your own. May you all feel the compassion, encouragement, care and concern from your Southern Door family to keep you Eagle Strong!
Patti
Patricia Vickman, Superintendent
