President's Message
Dear Members of the IISE Data Analytics & Information Systems (DAIS) Division,
I wish you a successful conclusion to your fall term. It gives me great pleasure to be able to update you on the recent activities of the IISE DAIS Division. The COVID-19 pandemic has had and will continue to have far-reaching consequences as we work our way out of it. However, despite the numerous hurdles and difficulties posed by COVID-19, DAIS has demonstrated resilience and continued to provide quality services to the community through both established programs and ground-breaking new initiatives.
I would want to express my gratitude to our current board members, Zimo Wang (SUNY Binghamton), Hyunsoo Yoon (Yonsei University), Cheng-Bang Chen (University of Miami), Ziteng Wang (Northern Illinois University), Nathan Gaw (U.S Air Force Institute of Technology), Chenang Liu (Oklahoma State University), Haifeng Wang (Mississippi State University), and Fei Gao (Cruise), as well as student board members Yanqing Kuang (University of South Florida), Adam Meyers (Pennsylvania State University), and Lujia Wang (Georgia Institute of Technology) and TVP Joseph Wilck (William & Mary). We are really appreciative of their selfless contribution to the division! I also want to express my gratitude to our previous president, Changqing Cheng (SUNY Binghamton), and past board members. We chose Xiao Liu (University of Arkansas) as president-elect for the 2022-2023 school year. I wish the team the best of luck in their endeavors, and I am convinced that 2021-2022 will be another fantastic year.
If you are interested in joining the Board of Directors, we encourage you to apply when the Call for Nominations is released in early 2022. We are constantly recruiting industrial and academic professionals to join our board. Additionally, we are searching for students to join the board of directors.
As you are all aware, the 2022 IISE Annual Conference & Expo will take place from May 21-24 at the Hyatt Regence Hotel in Seattle, Washington. If you are attending the conference, I strongly encourage you to join the town hall meeting to learn more about the DAIS Division's current status and activities throughout the 2021-2022 academic year. Attending the town hall meeting enables you to provide DAIS board members feedback on current initiatives and suggest new ones.
We look forward to seeing you there!
The key activities of the DAIS division planned for 2021-2022 are:
- Best Track Paper Competition
- Best Student Paper Competition
- Data Analytics Competition
- DAIS Mobile/Web App Competition
- Webinar Series
- Inaugural Data Analytics Education Award
- Professional Achievement Award
- Student board member nomination
- DAIS Tracks and Town Hall Meeting in IISE Conference & Expo
Some of the strongest scientific talents remain at universities, where some researchers question the impact of their work. On the other side, businesses are more in tune with their customers' issues. We firmly think that bridging the divide between academics and industry benefits all parties involved to the greatest extent. Professionals in the data analytics field, please do not hesitate to contact DAIS and become involved in DAIS activities.
We look forward to seeing you at the 2022 IISE Annual Conference and Expo on the DAIS track. We wish you and everyone a productive and peaceful year!
Sincerely,
Sinan Onal (Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville)
IISE DAIS Division President, 2021-2022
