As we head into Deck Safety Month®, it’s encouraging to see the continued focus on our industry across platforms like LBM Journal’s April Decking Issue.



As Rick Schumacher shared, “publishers aren’t supposed to have favorites… but this one stands out.” And for good reason. The depth of coverage reflects what we all know to be true. This category matters, and it continues to grow in both importance and impact.

I’d also like to give a personal shoutout to my daughter, Heather Marchand, for her in-depth piece, “What Deck Builders Really Want” (pp. 90–95), built around the voices of NADRA builders from across the country. It’s a real, unfiltered look at what builders are navigating every day. Small teams, serious volume, tight margins, and the kind of operational pressure that leaves no room for error. It also highlights what earns long-term loyalty and what builders truly need from their suppliers.

You might even catch a glimpse of a deck I helped build back in the ’90s. It was a different season of life for Margie and me, raising five young kids, and it’s been fun to read her perspective on that time.

Alongside that, you’ll find a NADRA code update from Erin Koss, highlights from our national deck competition winners, and so much more.

We couldn’t be more humbled to be part of this incredible 104-page issue of LBM Journal. I encourage you to spend some time with this outstanding issue. Take the time to dig into this one. It’s a great read.

• Any claims that your contact information was obtained from NADRA are not accurate. Our system allows communication through the platform without sharing member email addresses. When appropriate, NADRA facilitates introductions on your behalf.

As always, it’s a good practice to check sender details and be cautious with unexpected links or attachments.
