Fellow NAWIC Members -
Let me share some of my construction herstory with you. In my life I have went from riding on the floorboards of the dump truck my grandmother was driving (when I was an infant), to being the "designated shifter" in my uncle's dump truck as soon as the shifter lever was within reach (about 3). At 8, I was promoted to transit stick operator while Grandpa recorded grades. Equipment repair assistant was also added to my experiences at that time. In high school, a local general contractor hired me as a clerk. My grants and loans for college were supplemented by working as a laborer, both concrete and rough carpentry. My summer before senior year involved an internship as an assistant job site foreman. Two years post college added estimator for a commercial general contractor to my resume. A smidge over 23 years ago, Syverson Tile & Stone, Inc. hired me as an estimator; now I am senior estimator.
The many roles of my time in the construction industry have shown me one very critical thing. We are all important. What we each bring to the table as individuals and in our work roles create an impact. Meeting new people and learning from their perspectives is fascinating to me. Without all of us, doing our best every day, we don't have homes to live in, buildings for business/schools/hospitals, water treatment plants, roads, bridges - the list goes on forever. We are important. YOU are important. As we continue on our life journeys, my hope is to meet many of you and hear your experiences.
Thank you for your time. I know campaign information can add a lot to our already busy days. Your time is valuable; spending some of it "with" me is immensely appreciated. Thank you to those who have reached out to me with questions and with messages of support. Keep them coming! Your time, your voice, your presence makes an impact. I greatly appreciate it.
