Re: Food for Truck Drivers
Mr Lamb,
Thank you for your efforts.
The FMCSA is working within its authorities in several areas to provide needed relief to the industry in these uniquely challenging times.
For those areas of concern outside of FMCSA authority, we are coordinating with other relevant agencies to assist.
Thank you again for your efforts on behalf of the men and women delivering emergency supplies throughout the country in these challenges times.
-Jim

We have at least a hundred of drivers contacting us today advising they can't find food on the road SBTC has reached out to FMCSA twice and now FEMA directly in multiple ways requesting immediate relief for drivers who can't access food and rest rooms. As we wait for a reply, please note the following... we suggest you help us scream at FEMA that the supply chain is going to collapse if food is not made available to truckers by the Government.
FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers
FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) are accessible meeting places set up to provide help after a disaster. There you can learn about FEMA or other assistance programs. You may also ask questions about your case or seek guidance on other disaster-related issues. The services offered at each DRC may vary.
There are two ways to find a DRC near you:
Use the
DRC Locator
to find addresses and DRC details. Find info like the hours of operation, services offered, and driving directions.
Text DRC and a ZIP code to 43362.
Example: DRC 01234.

Subject: Food for Truck Drivers
Dear Secretary Chao, Administrator Mullen, and Mr. Minor -- As you are aware, in this time of national crisis, truck drivers are the lifeline between citizens in this country and the supplies they need to live.
However, truck drivers --- the first responders who have the job of brings supplies to Americans and hospitals -- are not able to get the food THEY need to survive because many, if not all roadside and truckstop restaurants are closed. And those that are opened only allow drive-through and take out.
SBTC has heard from truck drivers around the country who are working hard to get supplies to the people, hospitals, and stores that need them but are literally starving because they can't get access to food themselves.
SBTC proposes, that in light of this dire situation the Department of Transportation and FMCSA urge the President to order FEMA and the Red Cross to man truck stops around the country to provide food and water to the truck drivers who are bringing food and emergency supplies to people in need.
During this crisis, TRUCK DRIVERS ARE FIRST RESPONDERS, our country has a duty to them to make sure they can do their job. It is vital to call on FEMA and the Red Cross to support drivers.
SBTC is available to help in this effort any way we are needed.
Very truly yours,
