On 4/27, we received a few calls about an injured deer on the north end of the village. The deer had tried jumping a fence at the JCC and got it's rear leg caught on the fence. Thanks to the deer-termined work of our dayshift officers, the deer was cut loose and able to run off with only an injured leg.

What is an Edible Book?

An edible book is an item that looks like a book, puns on a title, refers to a character, or just has something to do with books. The only rule is that entries must be made from edible ingredients. Edible Book Festivals have been held all over the world, and there is array of examples found online. The festival started as a celebration to commemorate the birthday of French gastronome Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826), famous for his book Physiologie du goût, a witty meditation on food.

How do I participate?

The Edible Book Festival is open to anyone: the young, the old, and everyone in between. Register your entry by Sunday, May 11 here. Then make your edible book and drop off your creation on Monday, May 12, by 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday, May 21, 2:00 p.m.

Registration Encouraged

Our Tea Time Book Club meets once a month is led by Library Director Nyama Reed. This month we're reading Challenger: A True Story of Heroism and Disaster on the Edge of Space by Adam Higginbotham. Tea Time Book Club offers in-person meetings at the Library in the 2nd floor Program Room. Copies of Challenger are available to pickup at the Adult Services Desk.

About the book: "On January 28, 1996, the space shuttle Challenger broke apart of the Atlantic Ocean, killing all seven people on board. Like disaster is a defining moment in twentieth-century history--yet the full story of what happened, and why, has never been told. It's a compelling tale of ambition and ingenuity undermined by political cynicism and cost-cutting in the interests of burnishing national prestige. A masterful blend of riveting human drama and fascinating and absorbing science, Challenger brings to life and even more complex and astonishing story than we remember" -- Back cover.
