Emotional Wellness
5 Tips to Adjust to Time Changes - Catherine Boeckmann
- Go to bed and get up at the same time. Get at least 7 hours of sleep on the day(s) before and after the transition. Lack of sleep tells the body to store fat. While staying up later or changing your habits is tempting, it’s best to keep your bedtimes consistent. The closer you stick to your normal routine, the faster your body will adjust to the time change.
- Practice good habits before bedtime. In the days after the time change, quit caffeinated beverages 4 to 6 hours before bedtime. If you are exercising, avoid workouts within 4 hours of bedtime because raising your body’s core temperature can make it harder to fall asleep. If you know you have a tough time with time changes, you need to avoid electronics near bedtime, at least for a few days afterward. Electronics’ high-intensity light hinders melatonin, a hormone that triggers sleepiness. Light stimulates your brain and makes sleep difficult in the same way sunlight does. Also, turn off the television and pick up a book. Take a warm—not hot—shower. Dim the lights. Relax.
- Keep your dinnertime consistent. Eat more protein and fewer carbs. Our sleep cycle and our eating patterns affect each other. Don’t overeat. Also, if you find yourself feeling snack-y, eat a snack that is high in protein instead of carbohydrates.
- Get more light! Go outside and get exposure to morning sunlight on the Sunday after the time change to help regulate your internal clock. Having shorter daylight hours affects our mood and energy levels, decreasing serotonin. Make time to take a morning or early afternoon walk outside when the sun is out.
- Take a short catnap. Some folks may disagree, but if you’re starting to stack up sleepless hours, it’s safer and healthier for your body to give in to a short nap than to continue without sleep.

Falcon Runners Head to the OHSAA State Championships
Saturday, November 1 | Fortress Obetz | Tickets: ohsaa.org/tickets
It’s a big weekend ahead for Bishop Fenwick Cross Country as two standout Falcons — freshman Sophia Tebbe and junior Markus Boyd — take the next step in their remarkable 2025 seasons, competing at the OHSAA Division III State Championships at Fortress Obetz in Columbus.
Their journeys represent not only personal milestones, but also the growing strength and promise of Fenwick’s cross-country program. Both athletes have showcased grit, composure, and leadership throughout the season, earning their place among Ohio’s best.
Sophia Tebbe Making Falcon History
In her debut season, freshman Sophia Tebbe has established herself as one of the top young runners in Southwest Ohio. Her consistent improvement and competitive drive have fueled an extraordinary postseason run — culminating in a 6th-place finish at the OHSAA Southwest Regional Meet (19:12.86) to secure a trip to State.
Sophia’s 2025 campaign has been defined by excellence and poise beyond her years. She captured the GCL Championship title (19:35.00), finished 3rd at the DIII Sectional Meet (19:02.50), and earned multiple top-10 finishes across major invitationals, including the Mason, Springboro, and Midwest Catholic meets.
She’ll toe the line at 11:50 AM on Saturday at Fortress Obetz, representing not just her team, but the entire Fenwick community. Fans are encouraged to wear Falcon blue, bring signs, and cheer her on as she races among the state’s elite.
Markus Boyd: A Season of Steady Climb
On the boys’ side, junior Markus Boyd capped off an outstanding year with a strong 27th-place finish at Regionals (16:43.92), following a personal-best 16:27.50 at the DIII Sectional Meet. Markus has shown tremendous growth this season, consistently lowering his times and positioning himself as one of the area’s most reliable performers.
His resume speaks for itself — top finishes at the GCL Championships (4th place, 17:17.00) and Norwood Invitational (1st place, 19:23.40) highlight a season of steady progress and competitive fire. Markus’s dedication has made him a cornerstone of the boys’ program and a leader for a young and developing squad.
Markus will race Saturday at 12:30 PM, continuing his strong finish to a breakout season and setting the tone for what should be an exciting senior campaign ahead.
Building for the Future
This weekend’s races at Fortress Obetz mark more than just a postseason milestone — they represent the next chapter in Fenwick’s growing cross-country legacy. Both Sophia and Markus embody the values of work ethic, resilience, and faith that define the Falcon spirit.
Their achievements also serve as inspiration for the entire team, many of whom competed at Regionals and will return next fall with championship experience and renewed determination.
What to Watch:
- Sophia’s poised freshman debut on the state stage — a historic moment for Fenwick Girls Cross Country.
- Markus’s continued rise as a leader in the boys’ program, aiming for a strong state finish.
- The growing depth and future promise of Fenwick Cross Country as the program continues to build momentum.
Fan Information
Let’s rally around Sophia and Markus as they represent the maroon and gold on the biggest stage in Ohio cross country. Their journey is a reflection of our commitment, our community, and our Falcon pride.

The Bishop Fenwick Falcons are on a roll. After claiming the OHSAA Division IV District Championship with an impressive sweep over Bethel (25–17, 25–19, 25–14), the Falcons went into Thursday’s Regional Semifinal with momentum, focus, and confidence.
Fenwick Falcons: Balanced, Powerful, and Poised
Fenwick (19–6) entered the Regional round with a mix of senior leadership and emerging young talent that has fueled one of the program’s most consistent seasons in recent history. The Falcons have yet to drop a set in the postseason and are averaging nearly 11 kills per set across their tournament run.
Offensively, Junior Morgan Meiring has been a dominant force at the net, recording 300 kills on 725 total attacks, while Senior Sienna Polomsky (144 kills) and Sophomore Mia Schmitt (180 kills) have provided consistent scoring from the outside.
The Falcons’ offensive rhythm is orchestrated by Junior Abby Keller, who has tallied an impressive 489 assists this season, spreading the attack efficiently and keeping opposing defenses guessing. Senior Paige Carmel adds another dimension with 460 assists and 57 service aces.
Defensively, Junior Emme Moser anchors the back row with 444 digs, supported by Abby Kiser (102) and Kenzie Williamson (73). At the net, Senior Caroline Hinker has been instrumental, contributing 53 blocks and 168 kills while maintaining strong leadership presence.
What’s at Stake
Winning Thursday night’s match advanced the Falcons to the OHSAA Division IV Regional Final, where they will face Archbishop McNicholas on Saturday. Fenwick Football Travels to Brookville for OHSAA Division IV First Round Battle
Friday, October 31 | 7:00 PM | Brookville High School |
Tickets: ohsaa.org/tickets
The Bishop Fenwick Falcons (6-4, 3-2 GCL Co-Ed) are playoff-bound for the first time since the 2022 season, earning a Division IV postseason berth after closing the regular season with a dominant 35-8 win over Carroll. Their reward — a first-round road matchup against one of the region’s top programs, the Brookville Blue Devils (9-1, 5-1 SWBL), this Friday night at Brookville High School.
Fenwick Peaking at the Right Time
Fenwick’s 2025 campaign showcased growth, grit, and balance. The Falcons battled through a demanding schedule, with notable early wins over Monroe (21-7) and Franklin (24-17) before turning the corner in the second half of the season.
Since October 10, Fenwick has rattled off three straight wins — at Chaminade Julienne (36-14), McNicholas (16-14), and Carroll (35-8) — finding their rhythm on both sides of the ball. That surge secured a winning record and momentum heading into the playoffs.
Offensively, sophomore quarterback McCaffrey Halcomb has been completing 56 of 100 passes for 952 yards and 6 touchdowns. Dual-threat junior Hudson Kreke adds versatility, contributing 444 rushing yards and 4 scores on the ground while also leading the team in receiving yards (364).
In the backfield, senior Jackson Kauffman powers the run game with 678 yards on 110 carries (6.2 avg) and 9 touchdowns, while juniors DJ Berning and Micah O’Connor provide depth and big-play capability.
Defensively, the Falcons rely on a disciplined and physical unit led by senior linebacker Kelby Shaffer (86 tackles) and senior defensive end Patrick Keefer (71 tackles, 6 sacks). The secondary has been opportunistic, with Kauffman and Kreke combining for 5 interceptions on the season. Fenwick’s defense has allowed just 12 points per game during their current three-game winning streak.
Brookville Breakdown:
Brookville enters the postseason with a 9-1 record, their only loss coming to Valley View (27-7) in Week 9. The Blue Devils boast one of the most explosive rushing attacks in Division IV, piling up 2,894 yards on the ground and 44 rushing touchdowns this season.
Quarterback Jayden Resor (633 rushing yards, 13 TD) headlines a multifaceted offense supported by backs DJ Moore (801 yards, 11 TD) and Jake Lenser (804 yards, 12 TD). While Brookville doesn’t rely heavily on the passing game — completing just 42% of their attempts — they average over 7 yards per carry as a team and can control tempo behind a strong offensive line.
Defensively, Brookville is anchored by Jake Lenser (57 tackles, 1 INT TD) and Brayden Reich (6 sacks), while senior DJ Moore adds playmaking ability in the secondary (2 INT). They’ve held opponents under 15 points per game in 7 of 10 contests.
Key Matchups to Watch
- Trenches and Turnovers: Fenwick’s front seven vs. Brookville’s power run game will be decisive. The Falcons’ ability to create third-and-longs could flip the script.
- Versatile Playmakers: Hudson Kreke’s two-way production could be pivotal in countering Brookville’s speed.
- Momentum and Confidence: Fenwick’s three-game winning streak gives them swagger entering a challenging road environment.
What’s at Stake
The winner advances to the OHSAA Division IV Region 16 Quarterfinals next week against Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy. Fenwick aims to extend their season and prove their late-season surge can carry into November football.
- Kickoff: Friday, October 31 at 7:00 PM
