The Three C's of Financial Harmony
When it comes to couples and money, success often comes down to Communication, Clarity, and Compromise. Here's what I mean:
Communication: Schedule regular "money dates" - maybe monthly check-ins where you discuss both short-term needs and long-term dreams. Make it fun! Some of my clients pair these talks with their favorite takeout or a good bottle of wine.
Clarity: Be transparent about your financial situation, including debts, assets, and financial goals. One couple I work with maintains a shared document they call their "Money Map" - listing everything from account passwords to their wishlist for retirement.
Compromise: Accept that you and your partner may have different money personalities. One may be a saver, the other a spender. One may be the budgeter while the other is the investor. The goal isn't to change each other but to find common ground.
