Missions & Advocacy Update

Oct 2026

With midterm elections right around the corner, the missions and advocacy committee are encouraging multiple ways for our community to be involved. Here are three ways Wilshire is encouraging engagement, but of course the opportunities are endless!

  • Check your registration status, know your polling location and then beginning Oct 19th add an “I Voted” sticker to poster boards around the church once you’ve casted your vote.
  • There is a great panel focused on voting rights coming Oct 4th at First Unitarian. Register as a guest and join others there.
  • And lastly for those who want to be on the ground monitoring the polls, we are encouraging the poll chaplain/peacekeeper training (see below).

Wilshire Generosity

Did You Know?

Wilshire continues its support of our neighbors through providing rental and utility assistance. This year we began accepting referrals from three of our primary mission partners, White Rock Center of Hope, Empowering the Masses and the Dallas Eviction Advocacy Center.

"We are incredibly grateful for your partnership and for the genuine care you continue to show our students. Knowing that Tatianna has one less thing to worry about because of your generosity is such a blessing. Support like yours gives our students the opportunity to stay focused on completing their training and building a better future for themselves and their families.”

-ED Tammy Johnson of ETM

Wilshire member Cindy Estee is coordinating volunteers to serve as food pantry assistants on the third Tuesday of each month from noon to 3:45 p.m. Wilkinson’s food pantry serves all ages in all stages: kids, single moms, fathers trying to support their families and seniors on a fixed income. Assistants greet and help clients, restock shelves and pack food boxes.

Volunteers do not need to serve every month. If you are interested, contact Cindy. She will reach out monthly to confirm our team of four to six.
