A New Season Has Begun!

Students and artists are reconnecting through the magic of circus arts and play throughout Oakland! We've been very busy launching our free fall programs after a short break following our Summer Circus and Academic Program. Below are updates on this semester's activities, upcoming events, and an important invitation to help make it happen!

Five Oakland after school circus programs

We've resumed programming for 3rd - 5th graders at Prescott Elementary, East Oakland Pride, and Sankofa United. We've also returned to Horace Mann and La Escuelita after a three year hiatus.

Two School day residencies

Our partnerships with Esperanza Elementary and Montera Middle continue this year with weekly programs that include Special Day Classes with students with disabilities.

OUSD Young Adult Program (YAP) Circus

Weekly day-time classes engage eighteen students with disabilities, growing our pilot that began last year in partnership with OUSD Office of Special Education. The program promotes creativity, social interactions, expanded physical literacy, and FUN!

Step Into the Ring With Us and

Support the Circus

The need is real.

While we're keeping all the balls in the air and staying flexible, we could really use your help right now. Like many arts nonprofits, Prescott Circus is facing "post- (COVID) pandemic" financial and capacity challenges. Our goal is to raise $40,000 this calendar year in honor of our 40 years and we need to ramp up our efforts in the coming weeks.

PCT's free programs attract students who are not as drawn to traditional expressive arts and/or physical activities, fulfilling a unique niche in our schools. Students' performances have been contributing to Oakland's cultural fabric now for generations, preserving a sense of pride and place with children in the center ring. Without community investment among individuals like you all, these opportunities would not be available for our youth.

Prescott Circus programs promote

creativity, joy and belonging in schools and communities.

Please help sustain this magic.

Please contact us if you have any questions or want to learn about getting involved!

Summer Success

Our six–week Summer Circus and Academic Program engaged 28 students from 11 Oakland schools. The group created a beautiful show performed at the Malonga Theater and DeFremery Park for over 600 children and adults. Advanced students performed for 17 events including St. Vincent Day Home's Juneteenth Celebration, Circus Bella's Circus in the Parks, and a day-long residency with Sheldon Elementary in Richmond.  Thank you to our core summer funders: Oakland Fund for Children and Youth, Kaiser Permanente, West Davis and Bergard Foundation, and Port of Oakland.
