FRIDAY FLASH

November 3, 2023

A Message from Headmaster Scott

Dear Archway Trivium Families,

Great stories delight us, which is the main reason we read them. However, great literature does so much more. It stimulates our moral imagination, connects us with characters both fantastical and mundane. Today, we celebrated great characters from our literature and history curricula. Memorable images from the day include: a giant crocodile creeping behind Captain Hook, A Giant child looming over a small Jack, clinging to his beanstalk, and roughly 200 Greek goddesses scattered about.

For my part, I chose to become Aragorn, the ranger who became king in J.R.R. Tolkien’s magnificent Lord of the Rings series. Speaking of him, Tolkien gives us these beautiful lines:

All that is gold does not glitter,

Not all those who wander are lost;

The old that is strong does not wither,

Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

I want to draw your attention to this last line, “Deep roots are not touched by the frost.” To understand the imagery, we need to understand that, in places where frost exists, a late-season frost can destroy an entire crop in a single night if the tender plants do not have sufficient strength to withstand the freeze. By contrast, a plant that has deep, strong roots can easily survive such an event.

One does not grow “deep roots” by simply living longer, one must also live purposefully and according to true principles that help develop strength. It is our aim every day to help our scholars, your children, develop deep roots. Unlike the frost, in all times and in all places, trials and difficulties come. The best thing we can do to prepare them is to train them and try them according to those same true principles of good living that they will need to lean on in times of need. Thank you for trusting us and partnering with us in this great work. Please enjoy the weekend, and take a moment to enjoy a great story together.

Heartily Devoted,

Clay Scott, Ed.D.

PSO Snowstorm - 2023 Faculty and Staff Holiday Appreciation

The PSO Snowstorm is underway through Friday, November 17!

Give to Snowstorm Holiday Teacher Appreciation

Snowstorm is an easy way to show love to our teachers during the holidays. In lieu of gifts for each of your scholar’s six teachers, show your appreciation by giving an offering of thanks to be divided among Archway Trivium faculty and staff. This year, we are asking families to consider a gift of $50 per scholar to help us reach our goal. This would mean a holiday gift of $175 for each full-time staff member! A donation of ANY amount is greatly appreciated!!

Families who contribute to Snowstorm will be acknowledged by name in our Snowstorm holiday display and have their name printed in a holiday card presented to teachers during a special holiday breakfast in December.

Follow the steps below to help us create a “Happily Ever Snowstorm”!

Families who have not already given are asked to first give to Community Investment before giving a Snowstorm Holiday Gift. Please consider giving to help us reach our goal!

First, Give to Community Investment

Then, Give to the PSO Snowstorm

This year, we also have an online option to pre-pay and send funds electronically if you’re not comfortable sending cash with your scholar. Please be sure you still fill out the envelope that was sent home this week with your scholar as that is their “ticket” to attend the book fair. https://bit.ly/trivium2023

Finally, we will have a special Parents Only shopping hour on Tuesday, November 7 from 1:45-2:45pm. This is a guaranteed time where no scholars will be in attendance so you can get a jump start on holiday shopping.

Late Pick-up Policy

We have been doing very well with our on-campus student pick-up and drop-off routines as of late. Every year, it takes a few weeks for us to settle into a routine so that the pickup runs smoothly. Now that pick-up times are running efficiently, we ask parents to ensure they arrive on time to pick up their students.

We will begin enforcing our Late Pick-up Policy on Tuesday, September 5. Please make sure you are arriving within 30 minutes of the end of school to pick up your scholar in order to avoid being charged a late pick-up fee. Parents arriving after this time will be required to sign out their child from the MPR and may be assessed a $2 per minute, per student late fee. All late pick-up fees will be added to your Configio account and are due upon receipt. For more information, please see page 46 of our Family Handbook.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday - You will be charged from 3:35pm

Wednesday - You will be charged from 1:55pm

Half days - You will be charged from 12:25pm (excludes Half Day Kinder)

Communication Updates

Latest News image.png

School Messenger Communication

Great Hearts and Archway Trivium continue to utilize the system School Messenger for emails, robo-calls, and text messaging to inform families of campus related academy emergencies and other communications. SchoolMessenger has a new automatic opt-in for text feature. During the registration/re-enrollment process families confirmed their wish to participate in text communications. Great Hearts will now automatically opt in contact information given during the registration/re-enrollment process with the options you selected. You will notice at the beginning of July you will be opted in for text messaging. If you would like to opt out of text messages simply reply STOP to the text from 67585. You can also enter the code 67585 with the message STOP to block any text messaging. Please note, if opting out, you will not receive texts regarding emergencies on campus.

Email Communications

If you know of parents who are not receiving these communications, please ask them to check their junk/promotions email folders, and then email bmcdonald@archwaytrivium.org for assistance.

You can also find ALL school-wide communications on our website on the Latest News page.
