Supervisor Liz Alessio ~ September/October 2026 | |
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
September was another busy and meaningful month across Napa County as we officially entered fall with shorter sunlit days, vineyards turning gold (if only), and all things pumpkins (my mom’s favorite). I am reminded of my childhood days in Napa, raising my children here, and how grateful I am to serve our community.
We also recognized several important observances, including National Recovery Month, National Suicide Prevention Month, and the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month.
I joined Mayor Scott Sedgley for the Napa Kiwanis and Rotary clubs’ joint luncheon, where we had fun banter and an opportunity to connect over a longstanding Napa tradition, Big Game! We met the coaches and team captains from both teams and were thoroughly impressed by all. I want to give a special thanks to Coach Dylan Leach from Vintage High Varsity Football and Coach Chis Harrison of Napa High Varsity Football. It’s clear they are building more than student athletes. They are building individual values, confidence, and leadership that will stay with these athletes’ way beyond Big Game.
Speaking of supporting our youth, there’s no other time more important than from infancy to 5 yrs old, which is why I was thrilled to tour the new and much needed Le Petit Elephant Child Development Center (LPE). Looking into the faces of these precious babies and toddlers touched my heart and filled me with pride that Governor Newsome recently signed Senator Christopher Cabaldon’s SB299 into law (more details below).
I attended the Land Trust of Napa County 50th Anniversary recognizing the preservation of 96,000 acres in Napa County over the last 5 decades. I also attended the 25th remembrance of 9/11 at Napa’s 9/11 Memorial ceremony to remember those who lost their lives and honor the first responders, service members, and ordinary citizens who answered the call.
Another highlight was attending the Salvation Army Napa Valley Culinary Training Academy graduation celebrating the accomplishments of local graduates as they completed their training and took an important step toward employment, greater financial stability, and independence. Programs like this demonstrate what can happen when we give people a lifechanging opportunity through sobriety, education, mentorship, and community support.
I had the opportunity to tour the Napa River and review the next phase of the Napa River Flood Protection Project and see firsthand the proposed plan to protect our community while continuing to improve the river corridor. Finally, I attended the 2026 CalTravel Summit, connecting with tourism and hospitality leaders throughout California to discuss the continued importance of tourism and its role in our local economy.
As always, I appreciate the many people who take the time to share their ideas, concerns, and successes with me throughout the year. It is a privilege to represent our community, and I look forward to continuing this work together.

Supporting Child Care and Farmworker Housing in Napa County
Two recent state measures could provide meaningful benefits to Napa County families and agricultural workers.
SB 299, authored by Senator Christopher Cabaldon, was recently signed into law and expands an existing California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) exemption to certain day care centers located in residential areas. By streamlining the environmental review process for eligible child care projects, the law could help make it easier to expand child care capacity and create additional opportunities for families to access care closer to home.
AB 1890, authored by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, would increase state support for Napa County’s farmworker housing centers. The measure would strengthen funding available for the maintenance and operation of these important housing resources, helping Napa County continue providing safe, year-round housing for farm labor employees.
Together, these measures address two important community needs—access to child care and stable farmworker housing—that support Napa County families, workers, and our local agricultural economy!
