April Outreach Drive

Crisis Services of North Alabama (CSNA) provides free, 24/7 crisis assistance in Decatur and surrounding areas, including a 24-hour HELPline (256-716-1000), HOPE Place emergency shelter for domestic violence victims, and specialized sexual assault forensic examinations. Additionally, they offer confidential counseling, legal advocacy, and 2-1-1 resource referrals for mental health and safety.

A long-time partner with St. John’s, they are in need of items for their various locations and programs. Please look at the list and provide what you can! Items can be left in the donation bins by the office or in the narthex. The list of needs includes clothing in a range of sizes, over-the-counter medications, and some household items. Tap the button for the complete list.

Walmart gift cards are the most useful donations as they cover a wide variety of needs, like gas, pharmacy, and underwear. Often, women arrive at a shelter with only the clothes on their backs. Gift cards can restore dignity and autonomy and allow the displaced mother the opportunity to purchase a gift for their child during Christmas holidays, birthdays, and back-to-school time.

Guild of the Christ Child

The Guild of the Christ Child welcomes new children into the world by providing something special and a meal for the family and by helping families and their young children find their place within the St. John's church family. Kathy Landis is the chairperson of the guild. Contact Kathy if you would like to learn more about the Guild of the Christ Child or to join her in this ministry.

Lent Madness : We Have a Winner!

Congratulations to Erika Huber, for having the best bracket from St. John's for this year’s Lent Madness! Erika will receive a mug with the face of the Golden Halo winner, Constance and Her Companions. Thanks to everyone who played, and join us again next year for the spiritually competitive Lent Madness bracket pool!

Congratulations to Constance and her companions for winning this year's Golden Halo. Again, let us remember the work of all those who nurse and care for us in hospitals, in schools, in religious institutions, and at home. Caregiving is one of the most sacred acts. Let these stories of the saints resonate with us as we move through Easter and beyond!

REGISTRATION: HERO ACADEMY VBS: SERVING LIKE THE SAINTS

Monday, June 22-Friday, June 26

9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Inspired by the lives of saints like Francis and Martin of Tours and Therese and Catherine, St. John’s Hero Academy VBS invites children to consider how following Jesus’ call to love and serve others is the most heroic thing of all. Children will create projects in the Hero Maker Design Studio, play high-energy games in the Gamer’s Gauntlet, hear stories of the faithful in the Hero Archives, and relax with a treat or two at the Holy Hero Cafe. All the while, they will discover that we can indeed serve like the saints!

Common Ground Community Garden

We have two of these lovelies at Common Ground blooming their hearts out, ready for the hummingbirds that are just getting to town. Coral Honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens) is a native, the flowers of which are nectar-rich. It blooms all summer into fall. Hardy and practically maintenance-free. The greatest hummingbird feeder ever!

Spring Clean-Up Day is April 18, starting at 9:00 am. Help would be appreciated as we prepare for the Garden Tour!
