The Message this Week

Preaching Text:  Jeremiah 17: 5-10

The pendulum swings! We have a reading from Jeremiah where he swings between cursing people and praising God. Prophets speak truth, and just as Isaiah last week, he is trying to put God in the center of their communal life together. It may not be easy to hear all of the words he has to say, but sometimes we need to be stirred up a little in order to continue to grow in our faith.

Good and gracious God, help us to be open to growing in faith, even if it occasionally requires some pruning. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

WONDERING...

Real questions from real people to learn more about faith.

When do I get to stop growing in my faith?

  • Give us hope when we are tempted to despair, and keep the reminders of your mercy ever before us.
  • As we gather in the harvest, remind us that you have made all things good for the nourishment of all creatures.
  • We thank you for family, for food and shelter, for friends and neighbors and our church community. Bless all those who find themselves alone on holidays, whether by choice or otherwise, and make of us one great human family.
  • There is more suffering in the world than we can sometimes comprehend, and yet you hold us all in the palm of your hand. Pour out your healing spirit on all who cry to you.
  • Uphold us with your promises still, and assure us of our place among the heavenly throngs who adore you eternally.

We lift all these prayers, and those of our hearts, to your loving care, O God. Receive them and restore our hope in your promises. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We surround with our prayers the family of Lois Gibbons, mother of Adam Gibbons, who died Saturday, November 15.

We surround with our prayers the family of Monika Klasing, mother of Mara Little, who died Monday, November 17.

The holidays are a wonderful time to give thanks for God’s many blessings, and are filled with joy over the birth of our Saviour Jesus. They can be filled with family, hope, love, and laughter. But the holidays can also be very bittersweet, and even depressing for many. There can be pain, loneliness, and sadness that finds its way into our thoughts and hearts despite the colorful lights and Christmas carols. Let a Stephen Minister be there for you with confidential understanding, and an arm to lean on. They will help you find peace and encouragement, and be a reminder that you don’t have to go through anything, including the holidays alone.

Contact Pastor Trudy for more information.
