AIA Ohio Public Services Award - Bill Ayars, AIA, ACHA, MBA

Initiated in 2016, with the tragic loss of Jennifer Emerald Ayars, Bill Ayars founded The Emerald Jenny Foundation establishing a website and referral service to support people struggling with substance abuse disorders, and especially for families like Bill’s, who did not know where to turn for help. Expecting to just sustain Clevelanders, Bill and EJF expanded the website to Cuyahoga County, neighboring counties, and EJF soon became the official site referral for the State of Ohio with over 1,200 participating treatment centers. In the spring of 2020, the Emerald Jenny Foundation merged with a national data base forming a website to assist families across the nation. Bill serves on the US Attorney’s Office Heroin and Opioid Action Place Committee, the Mental Health and Addiction Coalition, and the Cuyahoga County Board of Health Opiate Task Force.
AIA Ohio Emerging Professional Award - Hallie Crouch, Assoc. AIA

AIA Ohio also honored Hallie Crouch, Assoc. AIA Re-Occupancy Assessment Tool

Architects and allied professionals are in a unique position to coordinate a range of mitigation strategies that, in aggregate, reduce the risk of exposure to and transmission of COVID-19 within non-health care settings. The goal of this assessment tool is to promote best practices that protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public while creating opportunities for businesses, schools, restaurants, and other non-essential facilities to provide services.
This document provides architects, private clients, and civic leaders a framework of strategies for reoccupying buildings and businesses that are in the process of transitioning from being fully closed to fully open; including:

  • baseline parameters for re-occupancy
  • architectural and engineering strategies for site and site arrival, building envelope, fixtures and furnishings, plumbing and HVAC
  • administrative policies and procedures to reduce the spread of pathogens and support physical distancing
  • policies and procedures related to PPE
