Join us to enjoy the writings of two of the world's great naturalists, John Muir and Sigurd Olson, intertwined with the “nature-forged” music of Ed Willett, Cheryl Leah, and Warren Nelson.

(aka Emily Meets a New Plant)
The cloud ceiling was low and gray, but at least it wasn’t raining, and it wasn’t cold. Earlier in the day, a couple from southern Wisconsin had stopped by the Museum to ask where they could see some loons without a boat. I’d directed them to Country Road D, which snakes along the eastern shore of Lake Namakagon, and now I hopped on my bike followed my own advice.

Body Language
Wednesday was a picturesque, sunny day and I asked Aldo the American Kestrel to step on my glove. He readily hopped on and we circled the building to reach the perch by the Museum's front door. I tied off Aldo's leash to the perch and found a comfortable seat nearby, ready to relax in the sun.

But Aldo was not relaxed. His feathers were slicked down against his body, he crouched with his wings held tensely, and his attention jerked back and forth at every sound. I couldn't tell what was bothering him, but he was clearly not happy to be there. I waited a few minutes for him to calm down, but he continued to act alarmed.

A Mountain of Plastic
I pulled away layer after layer of plastic wrap and Styrofoam sheets and piled the material next to the sheets of plywood which had made up a short-lived shipping box. I had just inhereted a mountain of packaging waste. Unfortunately, it would've been difficult to avoid if the archival quality display cases were to get to our rural Museum and arrive intact. So, I lamented to other staff as they passed by my mess and started to think about how I could repurpose all that packaging.
