This Weekend: The Festival of Wellbeing

This weekend (Saturday 4 October), the Festival of Wellbeing invites us to gather online for a day of inspiration, connection and hope.

In this final introduction to our speakers, we share three voices who will bring fresh perspectives and deep wisdom to the day: Satish Kumar on love as the principle that unites us, Craig Jordan-Baker on rediscovering Nature in overlooked places, and poet Nadia Colburn on the lessons our bodies and the Earth can teach each other.

Don't miss out! There is still time to secure your place at this event: an opportunity to hear from outstanding voices in the environmental movement, put your questions to them directly, and support the charitable work of The Resurgence Trust.

The meaning of love

by Satish Kumar, Issue 345, July/August 2024

Satish Kumar offers a manifesto for living with love at the centre of our lives. In a world fractured by war and ecological crisis, Satish invites us to walk the path of radical love: a path of reverence, simplicity and connection with Earth and each other.

In his talk 'Love First', Satish Kumar will explore how love is the principle that unites, while truth reflects diversity. Each of us holds our own truth and our own perspective, yet this diversity need not create division. When we ground ourselves in love, we learn to respect different truths and differing points of view, while remaining connected and whole.

Knowing the nature near you

by Craig Jordan-Baker, Issue 352, September/October 2025

Craig Jordan-Baker reflects on the overlooked plants that grow in our streets, alleys and walls. By paying attention to these quiet companions: the lime, the pellitory-of-the-wall, the English stonecrop, he suggests we might recover a deeper sense of belonging, seeing that Nature is not far away but present where we live.

In this talk at The Festival of Wellbeing, Craig will discuss his 2021 pilgrimage along Northern Ireland’s longest river, the Bann, and the acclaimed book that emerged from that journey: If the River is Hidden.

Shifting the story

by Nadia Colburn, Issue 352, September/October 2025

US writer and poet Nadia Colburn says change is possible once we understand that the challenges we face collectively are not about us, but part of a bigger story – a story we can change by working on it together

In her Festival of Wellbeing talk, Nadia Colburn explores the deep reciprocity between body and Earth. Through poetry as a practice of deep listening, she will give voice to both trauma and resilience, pain and beauty.

Finding Quiet Strength

Friday 31st October - Sunday 2nd November • Hawkwood College, Stroud

Facilitator: Judith Kleinman

Finding Quiet Strength is a course designed to restore our daily lives to an ideal balance of work, rest and play.

We shall be working on finding our emotional intelligence and embodied awareness by revisiting old strengths of mind and body and discovering new strengths we didn’t know we had.

Led by experience tutor Judith Kleinman, this course will develop the ideas from her book, Finding Quiet Strength.

We look forward to welcoming you online this weekend for a Festival of ideas, connection and hope.

With all good wishes,
