Semi Annual Member Update

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
W.E. Chagares, DPM
Greetings ABPM Diplomates, our board continues to adjust to the challenges imposed by the pandemic. We are also aware of the many challenges faced by our Diplomates in the course of their medical practice and private lives. The ABPM staff is working diligently to assist our Diplomates as much as possible. Board staff have been working primarily off site from ABPM Headquarters, but maintaining effective communication with our Diplomates thanks to all manner of technical assistance.

Our most recently elected ABPM board members (July, 2020) are Drs. Brian Lepow and Priya Parthasarathy. Both are active and effective directors on our Board.

The Presidents goals for ABPM remain unchanged. To wit; Improve service to our Diplomate membership as rapidly and as efficiently as possible. Secondly, for ABPM to be the leader in moving our profession forward with strategies consistent with allopathic medicine and implementing changes to improve the entire profession (Summum Bonum) and not any particular special interest group. Thirdly, to challenge the long-standing injustice of hospitals limiting podiatry privileges based on board certification. ABPM is actively involved in addressing these discriminatory practices and I encourage any ABPM Diplomate who feels they are the victim of such discrimination to contact our office headquarters.

A great deal of effort by the ABPM staff and board members was directed toward a re-vamp of the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Updates in the website and integration with our web technology company has made the MOC process easier to access and navigate by our diplomates. ABPM continues to strive for improvements in our MOC program, going forward. We welcome feedback from our Diplomates.
WELCOME NEW ABPM DIRECTORS!

EDITOR'S CORNER
Seasons greetings!

We hope you, your family, patients and colleagues are safe and healthy during this very challenging pandemic. Firstly, I would like to thank the Board of Directors, and staff for their dedication to the mission and daily business activities for ABPM in these unprecedented times. This member newsletter provides a fine update of our activities over the last several months from our President, Dr. William Chagares, thank you for your leadership and dedication.

Since 2011, ABPM has participated in Maintenance of Certification (MOC), a required part of certification; the What, When and Why of the MOC is presented by MOC Chair, Dr. Nicole DeLauro.

Welcome to our new members on the Board of Directors, Dr. Brian Lepow and Dr. Priya Parthasarathy! We look forward to your talents and energies over the coming years. Congratulations to the recipients of the "Stephen M. Geller, DPM Graduate Merit Award”, ABPM is proud of each recipient for their continued strive for excellence in the field of podiatry.

The American College of Podiatric Medicine (ACPM), the educational arm of ABPM, has come out with the e-Learning POD which is a BRAND NEW and excellent educational opportunity for its members which will help fulfill state licensure requirements and ABPM MOC Category 2 requirements.

Our dedicated Executive Director, Dr. James Stavosky, has provided very valuable information on hospital podiatric privileging and credentialing requirements highlighted in this newsletter. If you are having any challenges with respect to credentialing and privileging, please contact Dr. Stavosky. Every organization needs a good fiscal plan and overseers to maintain it. Our Treasurer, Dr. Lee Rogers details a very positive report on our fiscal health.

As I have requested in the past, please send in your accomplishments so we can share them with your colleagues.

Sincerely,
David H. George, DPM
