HONORING EARTH DAY
Awesome Earth Day Enticement
Hello Friends,

Happy Earth Day! We know that many of you honor our Earth every day, and for that we THANK YOU!

Earth Day’s 50 th Anniversary looks a little different than we pictured it. While we won’t be gathering together and hopping into a Willamette Riverkeeper canoe to “get dirty for good” at a river clean up or aquatic invasive weed pull this year, we can still take action to improve our environment and support CLEAN WATER and HEALTHY HABITAT for our community… perhaps even via canoe (the original form of social distancing)!

Many of you may remember our 2019 canoe raffle , well today we are excited to announce that it’s back for 2020 and BETTER than ever before! Thanks once again to our incredible partners at Paddle People for making this awesome enticement possible!
Make a donation between Earth Day and August 30th and you will be entered to win an amazing Grand Prize package worth $2000, as well as THREE runner up prize packages!
Our GRAND PRIZE winner will take home:

  • Wenonah Northfork Canoe 16ft 9in ($1,199) Green w/ Black Trim
  • Two Made in Oregon Sawyer Paddles ($140)
  • Two PFDs ($160)
  • Canoeing lessons for up to 4 people ($200)
  • Canoe rental for up to 10 days so your friends can join you too ($300)
Any Willamette Water Trail paddler will appreciate the Northfork's ruggedness. Its polyethylene construction offers an extremely durable canoe with surprising capacity. Families will also feel at home with this new canoe that feels exceptionally stable, paddles easily and responds quickly.

THREE runner up prize packages include:

  • A canoe lesson for two ($100)
  • A canoe rental for up to 10 days ($300)

HOW TO WIN: Donate at one of the levels outlined below to earn raffle entries!

Donate a minimum of $10 a month for a year. For each $10 a month you donate, you will earn an entry (i.e. $10 a month = 1 entry, $20 a month = 2 entries, etc.)!

Increase your monthly donation by $10 or more and earn raffle entries (each $10 increment earns you an entry)! Just send an email to our Deputy Director, heather@willametteriverkeeper.org and she will make the changes.

Make a one-time donation of $120 and earn an entry into the raffle.
For each incremental donation of $120 you earn an additional entry!

Our raffle drawing will take place in early September. THANK YOU for choosing to support Willamette Riverkeeper, and thanks again to our partners, Jeff Catlin and Russ Woodward of Paddle People !
Take Part in Socially Distanced Science
Also in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, Willamette Riverkeeper and organizations across the Upper Willamette watershed invite you to join your community in documenting our local nature during the 2020 City Nature Challenge !

The City Nature Challenge is a community science bioblitz with the goal of observing and identifying as many species as possible in urban communities. As we stay home and stay safe to stop the spread of COVID-19, we can still observe and document the natural world in our own backyards, on our sidewalks, and even in our homes! Participants from more than 200 cities worldwide will contribute and so can you! Plants, animals, fungi, it all counts! Even tracks and other evidence of a species can be recorded.

Find out the name of that mystery plant growing nearby with iNaturalist, a free and easy to use app and website with a community of experts helping you identify what you found.
Anyone can use iNaturalist and contribute , however if you are in the Eugene-Springfield City Nature Challenge area and you make an observation on iNaturalist from April 24th-27th , it will automatically contribute to our total. Please follow all travel and social distancing guidelines as we bring technology and nature together to celebrate Earth Day.
