ISO 9001:2026 Revision Brings Sustainability and Digital Focus

The upcoming ISO 9001:2026 revision is expected to modernize quality management systems without fundamentally changing the standard. Key areas of focus include sustainability, climate-related risks, digital transformation, organizational resilience, and quality culture.

The revision is also expected to place greater emphasis on leadership accountability, ethics, risk management, and the use of emerging technologies such as automation, data analytics, and artificial intelligence. It will strengthen requirements related to change management, knowledge retention, and workforce competency.

While the changes are evolutionary rather than revolutionary, organizations should begin evaluating how sustainability initiatives, digital tools, and risk-based thinking are integrated into their quality management systems to ensure a smooth transition when the revised standard is published.

CMMC Enforcement Arrives in 2026

For defense contractors, 2026 marks the beginning of active Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) implementation. Following adoption of the final rule, CMMC requirements now appear in Department of Defense contracts, making compliance a prerequisite for many organizations seeking defense-related work.

Companies should also prepare for increased demand for third-party assessments, annual compliance affirmations, and greater cybersecurity scrutiny throughout the supply chain. Documentation — including System Security Plans (SSPs), policies, procedures, and evidence of implemented controls — will play a critical role in demonstrating compliance.

Organizations that prepare early and achieve certification ahead of competitors may gain a significant advantage as CMMC requirements continue to expand across the Defense Industrial Base.

IAQG Introduces Audit Preparation Report in OASIS Insights

The International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) has launched a new Audit Preparation Report within OASIS Insights, providing aerospace organizations with audit-readiness information before an audit begins.

The report analyzes historical audit data, identifies recurring findings, and consolidates key performance metrics into a single view. Available to suppliers, auditors, and certification bodies, the tool helps organizations proactively address potential issues and focus improvement efforts where they are needed most.

By shifting audit preparation from a reactive process to a proactive one, the new report supports more effective audits, stronger quality management systems, and continuous improvement throughout the aerospace supply chain.
