The Liaison to the Americas Region Representative is a position created in 2018 under the new WILPF International Constitution and Bylaws, adopted at the October 2018 Congress. The Liaison has an inside view of both WILPF Americas Region and International discussions and decisions. Additionally, through communications with the Americas Region Representative, the U.S. Liaison promotes the concerns of WILPF US and influences the discussion of the International Board (IB).
If you are interested in the work of International and being a vital link between the IB and WILPF US, consider applying to be appointed as the WILPF US Liaison to the Americas Region Rep!
The Board-appointed Liaison is expected to serve until the next (2025) International Congress. She (or he) participates in Board discussions as part of the current “extended” version of the Board’s Steering Committee, and she should be available for contact and collaboration with the Americas Region Representative as well as the Steering Committee.
Additionally, the Liaison job description includes these elements:
- Read the IB meeting’s monthly minutes (in alternate months, those minutes are on the IB’s political discussions of issues in sections)
- Inform the Steering Committee of relevant IB discussions and issues
- Provide a brief section report every other month to the Americas Region Rep., copied to the Board
- Provide suggestions and/or requests (in response to Board discussions) for the Regional Rep. to focus on at the IB meetings.
- Communicate questions from the WILPF US to the Regional Rep.
- Participate in occasional Americas Region calls with the Rep. and other Americas sections’ presidents and liaisons (currently via Skype)
- Prepare and write, responsively to Board input, the U.S. Section's annual report to the IB/Secretariat
- Participate in Board and Steering meetings
The Liaison can also be an important communications link with WILPF US members concerning International matters, by writing eNews articles, presenting at Board and branch meetings, and in other ways.
One must be a current member to qualify and to serve. Also, like Board members, the Liaison must be able to write and respond to emails. The newly appointed Liaison will be invited to participate in the upcoming meetings of the WILPF US delegation to the WILPF International Congress.
If you’re interested, please contact me quickly to request the application and/or ask further questions!
Your application must be emailed to me by Saturday, May 14, 2022, 5 pm your local time.
