A BEAUTIFUL SUMMER AFTERNOON IN WAIKIKI, HONOLULU, HI |
PROTECT YOURSELF
AND YOUR FAMILY FROM ELDER FRAUD
Every year, millions of elderly Americans fall victim to financial scams, including romance, lottery, and tech support fraud.
Scammers often gain victims’ trust through phone calls, online messages, mail, or media. Seniors are frequently targeted because they are typically polite, trusting, and financially stable. Many hesitate to report scams out of embarrassment or fear of losing their independence.
Common scams include:
- Romance scams: Fake romantic partners build trust online to steal money.
- Tech support scams: Fake tech reps claim to fix non-existent issues and steal personal data.
- Grandparent scams: Fraudsters pretend to be family in urgent need of money.
- Government impersonation: Scammers pose as officials demanding payment to avoid legal trouble.
- Sweepstakes/charity scams: Criminals pretend to represent charities or claim you’ve won a prize—if you pay a “fee.”
To protect yourself:
- End contact if something feels off.
- Search online for names, numbers, or offers to check for scam reports.
- Don’t let scammers pressure you to act fast.
If scammed, contact local police and your bank or credit card company.
Save all communication details and report the incident.
When in doubt—hang up or walk away!

WILD RIDE
A photographer from a well known national magazine was assigned to cover the fires at Yellowstone National Park. When the photographer arrived, he realized that the smoke was so thick that it would seriously impede or make it impossible for him to photograph anything from ground level. He requested permission to rent a plane and take photos from the air. He arrived at the airport and saw a plane warming up near the gate. He jumped in with his bag and shouted, "Let's go!" The pilot swung the little plane into the wind, and within minutes they were in the air. The photographer said, "Fly over the park and make two or three low passes so I can take some pictures." "Why?" asked the pilot. "Because I am a photographer," he responded, "and photographers take photographs." The pilot was silent for a moment; finally, he stammered, "You mean you're not the flight instructor!"

DID YOU KNOW?
1. Americans eat enough hot dogs on July 4 to stretch from Washington, D.C., to Los Angeles five times. That’s more than 150 million hot dogs!
2. The world’s largest cruise ship is the length of four football fields. The ship, Royal Caribbean’sIcon of the Seas, is composed of 20 decks and is around 1,200 feet long. A football playing field is 100 yards, which is 300 feet, making the ship four times longer than an NFL field!
3. The number of whales spotted near New York City has increased by 540 percent since 2010. Thanks to cleaner waters, which are a result of several environmental policies, the number of whales (mostly humpbacks) spotted in the waters off New York City has risen from just five sightings in 2010 to 272 in 2018.
4. The Eiffel Tower gets six inches taller in the summer. If you want to see the Eiffel Tower in all of its glory, then you might want to head to Paris in the summer. That’s because the 1,062-foot monument is more than six inches taller in the heat, thanks to thermal expansion, which causes the iron structure to expand. Even crazier, once the sun sets the tower begins to shrink again.

WARMER DAYS,
SUMMER IS HERE!!!
| | |
As I reviewed my previous newsletter updates, I realized that the weather, specifically the temperature, is very important to me. I don’t mind it being cold when I am in the mountains during winter time. But when it is cold here at the beach for a few months straight in the winter, I am ready for some warmer temperatures. Late May and early June have provided some really nice and warm days. Yippee! I am looking forward to summer here at the beach and wish you the same.
On a personal note, the surf has been fun, and the ocean is warming up. (There I go again, this time with ocean temperatures!) We went to Mammoth Mountain in April, and I got back into snow skiing after a long hiatus (20 years). It is just as fun as I remembered, and I can’t wait for next season. Clean eating is a continued theme at our house, and our local farmers market provides some great options. I discovered green eggs too. They are so creamy and yummy.
Then, in the beginning of May, my dearest friend from university (UC Berkeley) invited me for a quick trip to visit her in Honolulu, HI. We had a wonderful time catching up, eating wonderful food (both at home and out), and some quality time in the WARM ocean! What a great way to kick off the summer season. It was a great reminder that it is always worth it to spend time with loved ones, no matter where they are.
As we enter this season of summer holidays, travel, and warmer weather, I wish you a great summer!
Saludos, Sabrina

I MADE THE NEWSPAPER!
I'm on the left with my surf friends, Kim De Sante, Katie Calkins and Krista Schofield (1st place).
Thanks to our local newspaper in San Clemente Capo Beach and Dana Point for highlighting our surf contest, 'The Chuck' at San Onofre State Surfing Beach. Charlie (Chuck) and I have been putting this surf contest on for over 20 years and it keeps getting better every year.

A referral is just a name to some.
To me, it's a wonderful compliment.
I truly appreciate the opportunity to speak with your family, friends, and co-workers.
