May is Mental Health Awareness Month!
May is recognized nationally as Mental Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to increasing awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging open conversations around mental well-being. For legal professionals—attorneys, judges, paralegals, and law students—this observance carries particular weight. The legal field routinely exposes individuals to high-stakes decision-making, adversarial environments, and secondary trauma, all of which can accumulate quietly over time. Mental Health Awareness Month invites the legal community to pause and acknowledge that well-being is not a personal luxury, but a professional responsibility. This month emphasizes the importance of early intervention, peer support, and normalizing conversations about stress, burnout, and emotional fatigue—issues that often go unspoken in legal culture.
Please be sure to explore the well-being challenges offered by the Institute for Well-Being in Law throughout the month.

The Equity in Justice Book Club is Back with Another Chance to Read Together!
From Amazon:
Beyond race, class, or other factors, there is a powerful caste system that influences people’s lives and behavior and the nation’s fate. Linking the caste systems of America, India, and Nazi Germany, Isabel Wilkerson explores eight pillars that underlie caste systems across civilizations, including divine will, bloodlines, stigma, and more. Using riveting stories about people—including Martin Luther King, Jr., baseball’s Satchel Paige, a single father and his toddler son, Wilkerson herself, and many others—she shows the ways that the insidious undertow of caste is experienced every day. Finally, she points forward to ways America can move beyond the artificial and destructive separations of human divisions, toward hope in our common humanity.
Moderated by:
Dr. Amanda Parker, Equity in Justice Program Director of the State Bar of New Mexico
Torri Jacobus, Director of Statewide Equity, Inclusion, and Justice of the New Mexico Courts
Aja Brooks, Statewide Rural Justice Program Coordinator for the Administrative Office of the Courts.
Meetings: Online from noon - 1p.m. (MT)
