Latest News - October 2026

Dear Friends,

The recent ALICE Report shows that 30% of our neighbors struggle to afford basics, like food and in some of our towns (including my own) the figure is over 40%!

With your help SSKP is a lifeline to many who must make hard choices. Should I buy food or medicine? Groceries or gas? If you are able to make a donation, thank you very much. These vital funds help us to purchase food like eggs, peanut butter, tuna fish, pasta, potatoes, bananas, and fresh produce.

Please read our brochure and then share it somewhere within your community. Posting this brochure could help someone you know who is struggling with food insecurity.

The SSKP Community Meals (all 9 of them) are FREE and open for all to receive food and fellowship with no registration process.

The SSKP Pantries share groceries FREE of charge and are open to residents of our eleven-town service area with a simple registration process.

The SSKP Backpack Program provides FREE ongoing support to weekend feeding programs in area schools.

Together we feed, support, and strengthen our community.

With gratitude,

Amy

Support the Annual Appeal

In the beginning of October we mail our Annual Appeal to every home in the 11 towns we serve. If you haven't gotten yours yet, you can read our letter here and our updated SSKP Brochure with details about our mission and the times and locations of our 6 food pantries and 9 community meals.

Please read and share our brochure in your community. You can help ensure all those in need know where they can receive groceries and hot meals.

If you've already donated to the Annual Appeal, THANK YOU! Your generosity helps us share food with many households in our community. If you haven't made your gift yet, please take a moment to click "Donate Now".

Thank you!

We are grateful to all the volunteers, staff, host sites, and donors who make these meals and pantries happen each day!

High Holiday Food Drive from CBSRZ

Our friends at Congregation Beth Shalom Rodfe Zedek (CBSRZ) once again held their annual High Holiday Food Drive for SSKP. This year’s drive collected over 1,500 pounds of food for our SSKP Pantry in Old Saybrook.

Thank you CBSRZ, we are truly grateful for these generous donations of food and for your caring support for those in need in our community!

October is Clergy Appreciation Month

During October we recognize and uplift all the faith leaders who partner with SSKP every day. Local faith leaders host our programs, serve on our Board, organize teams who cook and serve meals, collect food donations, and open their doors to our neighbors in need.

Thank you to our Clergy partners for all the ways you support our mission of food & fellowship!
