Saginaw River

A flood warning issued by the National Weather Service for the Saginaw River is in place until May 26 with the waterway expected to crest around 22.3 feet -- 5.3 feet above flood stage -- by Friday morning before it starts to recede.

Tittabawassee River; May 20, 5 p.m.: 

The Tittabawassee River has crested at this time at 35.05 feet, about 3 hours ahead of and 3 feet under the previous forecast! For those who aren't familiar with river terminology (and we wish we weren't, to be honest), the "crest" is the highest level the river will reach during a given flooding event. PLEASE DO NOT RETURN TO YOUR HOMES AT THIS TIME. We will release information when it is safe to do so. It will take several days for the river to recede. Numerous roads remain closed in the City and County and conditions remain dangerous. Please remain vigilant and stay in a safe place for now - and, please, stay out of the flood waters.

• Residents of Saginaw County looking to help assist financially in addressing relief efforts surrounding the historic flooding occurring in the county are encouraged to support the Saginaw Community Foundation’s Emergency Relief Fund. 

• Saginaw Community Foundation is monitoring the flood emergency. We are in contact with emergency response officials to learn how best SCF resources could be used to support non-profit agencies or local governmental units that are engaged in aiding the residents of Saginaw County.

City of Saginaw

GENESEE AVE. BRIDGE CLOSURE BETWEEN NIAGARA AND WATER

Due to flood waters, the Genesee Avenue Bridge (between Niagara Street and Water Street) will be CLOSED until further notice. An inspection of the bridge will be conducted once flood waters have receded to normal levels, and will reopen when safe to do so. During this time, all Genesee Avenue Bridge traffic will be detoured to the Johnson Street Bridge. Please follow the detour set up, or seek an alternate route if possible. Residents are urged to bypass the Genesee Avenue Bridge, and the City of Saginaw asks drivers to please be patient while the closure is in place. 

Saginaw Charter Township

We are strongly urging those residents in the Riverforest Subdivision and Condominiums, as well as Valentine Court to evacuate. Due to the amount of water covering St. Andrews Road, and the water over Center Road, we have rescue vehicles taking those out that wish to leave. 

Thomas Township

Due to flooding conditions all bridges in Thomas Twp have been closed. If you need to leave Thomas Twp we are suggesting you travel south on Hemlock road to M-57 to I-75 (in Clio). Evacuations have occurred but we are asking you to monitor your conditions and evacuate if you feel it is necessary. The flooding is unpredictable and may change at a moment's notice. We ask that you stay home if possible and do not travel. Many of our roads have water across them. PLEASE DO NOT drive through water. If shelter is needed due to evacuations please go to Swan Valley High School or Hemlock High School.

Sewer Backup Alert - Tittabawassee Township and Freeland residents are strongly encouraged to limit the use of water from now until 6:00AM Thursday May 21. The use of water when connected to the Township or Freeland Sewer System may result in sewage back-up into your home or business. Dishwashers, Washing Machine, Showers, Sink and Lavatories should be used as sparingly as possible to prevent backups into homes and businesses.
