December 2024

Dear Friend,

We're all very busy this time of year, so I'll keep this short and sweet.

  • Giving Tuesday December 3!!!
  • Holiday sale on certain gift items
  • Last call to get your 2025 calendar before the New Year! Makes a great gift too.

Holiday office hours: The office will be closed between Dec. 23rd to Jan. 3rd, 2025. If there is an urgent issue, question regarding a donation, etc. you can email our Executive Director Kim at Kim@BCLandTrust.org during this time.

Happy Holidays and New Year!

Until next time, see you on the trails.

Giving Tuesday: Dec. 3rd!

Save the Date:

This year Giving Tuesday lands on Dec. 3rd, and we urge you to mark it on your calendars and participate! This is one of the easiest ways to support your local wetlands and positively impact the next generation of environmental stewards. Help us reach more students and bring them out for hands-on learning here at Bolsa Chica through our Miracles of the Marsh education program.

Ok, maybe I dipped into the eggnog a little too hard; but hey, whatever gets folks to help us spread the word about the wonders of Bolsa Chica.

Created with photographs from 20 generous photographers, the calendar highlights some of the amazing wildlife that we all love. Our fabulous Calendar Committee goes the extra mile: creating educational captions for the larger photos and matching the photos on each page with the animals you may see that month at the Reserve.

Wings Over Bolsa brings the natural wonders of the Reserve into your home or office for you to enjoy. With your donation of $20, you will receive one calendar; a donation of $80 will get you five calendars – so you can share your support of Bolsa Chica and its beauty with your friends. Shipping costs are included.

A huge “Thank You!” to each one of the photographers for sharing these amazing images with us!

December's Bird of the Month: CA Brown Pelican

The California Brown Pelican is one of the largest birds at Bolsa Chica, along with its larger cousin, the American White Pelican. The Brown Pelican is graceful and elegant when it is flying, but sometimes turns comical when it lands. It inhabits the western and eastern coastal edges of the USA, Mexico, and the Caribbean. The Brown Pelican fishes by dramatically plunge-diving into the water. It has an amazing flexible gular pouch which expands to hold large fish.

51” long; 79” wingspan; 8.2 lbs.
