Ashe County Chamber
The Chamber announces that with the generous support of donors locally and across the country, the Ashe County Advantage Project's Strength Meets Hope grant program has awarded $220,000 to small businesses in Ashe County to aid in recovery from Hurricane Helene. To date, grants have been awarded to 35 qualifying small businesses with ten or fewer employees. Ashe County Advantage Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is still accepting donations and grant applications. Because many unmet needs remain for businesses in recovery, this is the perfect time to remember Ashe Advantage for year-end charitable giving. Tickets for the 9th Annual High Country Economic Kickoff Luncheon are now available! This year's event will take place on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 10:30AM-1:00PM in the Grandview Ballroom, located at Appalachian State's North End Zone Facility. The Chamber had the pleasure of presenting a check in the amount of $16,000 to the Henderson Police Department and Vance County Sheriff’s Office for Shop with a Cop and Friends. The collaborative effort spearheaded by the Chamber resulted in all 180 tickets sold and will once again put smiles on several underprivileged children’s faces when they shop with a first responder at the local Walmart. The Chamber has appointed Thomas Hardin, Vice President of Consumer Lending at Founders Federal Credit Union, as Board Chair for the 2025 term. Joining him are Tyson Blanton of Duke Energy as Chair-Elect, Rocky Hudson of Lancaster County Natural Gas Authority as Treasurer, and Lisa deAndrade of Rebound Behavioral Health as Secretary. Additionally, six new members have been elected to the Board of Directors, with their terms commencing on January 1, 2025.

The program will include the ceremonial passing of the gavel from 2024 Chair of the Board, Terry Osborne, General Manager of the Rowan-Kannapolis ABC Board, to 2025 Chair of the Board, Steve Fisher, President and CEO of F&M Bank. The Gala will feature a sit-down dinner and time to connect and network with business leaders. Dress for the evening is semi-formal. The Chamber will recognize exemplary business and community leaders through prestigious awards such as the Small Business of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Young Professional of the Year, Minority Business of the Year, and the Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award. In honor of its 100th Anniversary in 2025, the Chamber will also be recognizing long-term businesses all year long.

Wilmington Chamber
Truist Bank recently presented a $25,000 check to the Chamber’s Foundation to support the Career and Leadership Development Academy (CLDA) and financial wellness programming. This money is being redistributed to the four Title I New Hanover County Schools. 8th-graders in Title I New Hanover County Schools went through the “Truist Life, Money, and Choices™” financial education program. Each of the four schools will receive $5,000 to use at their discretion. Supporting CLDA is a tremendous investment in our community’s future. At this crucial stage of development, students are not only building foundational academic skills but also cultivating essential social and emotional competencies. These opportunities help to engage students in meaningful ways, encouraging them to stay motivated and connected to their education. Ultimately, by investing in our youth, we are nurturing responsible, informed citizens who will contribute positively to our community for years to come.
The Chamber’s 158th Annual Meeting is coming up on February 6, 2025. We are excited to celebrate Jay Wileman, the recipient of the Duke Energy Lifetime Achievement in Business Award and be inspired by an uplifting keynote presentation from U.S. Olympian Johnny Quinn, guaranteed to energize you for the year ahead. We will also honor the leadership of our 2024 Board Chair, Lisa Leath, and welcome our 2025 Board Chair, Jim Hundley.

CACCE Disaster Fund Grants
CACCE created a Disaster Fund to assist our members in times of natural disasters. CACCE member chambers that need assistance after a natural disaster may apply for a grant from this fund if they meet the following criteria:
- The Chamber has suffered financial losses due to direct damage to their building and/or a disruption in normal operations as a result of a natural disaster;
-
The Chamber is located in a county that has been declared a federal disaster area (grant applications received from chambers in a community that has not been declared a federal disaster area will be reviewed at the discretion of the CACCE Executive Committee);
- The Chamber is a current paid member of CACCE; and,
- The Chamber has at least one full-time employee.

North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ Hope4NC Crisis Counseling Program provides immediate support and crisis counseling services for North Carolinians following Helene. Survivors experiencing stress, emotional fatigue, a mental health crisis or just need someone to talk to, can call the Hope4NC Helpline 24/7 at 1-855-587-3463. Services are provided at no cost and are available to anyone residing within the declared 39 North Carolina counties and tribal members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, regardless of their eligibility for FEMA financial assistance. Additionally, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Disaster Distress Helpline is available anytime to provide support. Survivors and responders feeling overwhelmed can call or text 1-800-985-5990 to receive free, confidential support in any language.

U.S. Chamber - Corporate Transparency Act: Filing Deadline is on Hold Again
On December 26, a merits panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit again halted the implementation of the Corporate Transparency Act’s (CTA) beneficial ownership reporting requirements. Click here for more information that you can share with your members.
U.S. Chamber - Small Business Hurricane Recovery Grant Program
American Express recently announced that its giving pledge on Small Business Saturday raised over $5 million toward a second round of grants to help support the small businesses impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.This is in addition to the 1,000 small businesses receiving grants through the Small Business Hurricane Recovery grant program launched in October, in collaboration with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

Eligible small businesses can apply online through January 3, 2025, at 11:59pm ET.
- The program offers $5,000 grants to businesses that meet eligibility requirements, including being in SBA disaster-declared counties, being financially harmed and cannot cover costs, and having 1-25 employees.

And as always, the Readiness for Resiliency Grant Program continues to help small businesses prepare and become eligible for a $5K grant in a disaster based on the grant requirements.
