How Net Unit Growth Ate the Hotel Industry | U.S. RevPAR +6.2% y/y last week; Another solid summer/leisure clean-comp week with noticeable improvement in Econ/Mid | |
As Truist Securities wrote, “Overall, U.S. RevPAR was +6.2% y/y for the week ending 8/15/2026, per STR/CoStar, below the prior week's result of +7.2% y/y and the 10-week average of 7.6% y/y. Last week's results were another solid performance across chain scales in a clean-comp week in the leisure-heavy month of August. Midscale and Economy RevPAR were up 5.1% and 4.6% y/y, respectively, a respective 220bps and 290bps improvement over the past 6 weeks of data. While August skews towards leisure more than any other month, we still observed that Mon-Thurs outperformed Fri/Sat (+6-8% vs. +4-5%, respectively), indicative to us that Business and Group travel trends also remained healthy last week. Upscale RevPAR: +5.0% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +6.0% y/y.”
