~ Building Community One Positive Story at a Time.

West Bridgewater Open Space Committee & Conservation Advocates for the Town Purchase of Open Land.

"The residents of West Bridgewater rarely have a say in the growth and development of open space in the Town. When chapter land becomes available for sale the Town has an opportunity to acquire it at the market price. This does not happen often and there are fewer parcels available today. Many of these are active agricultural parcels or are forested land with a vast and diverse ecosystem.

We hear all the time that the Town is losing its rural and agricultural identity. This is an opportunity for the town’s residents to have a real say in what the future of West Bridgewater looks like. When you lose State listed Prime Agricultural Soils you can never get them back. Over the past 10+ years the Town has lost far more acres of open space to development than we have preserved.

Whether we just leave land as open space, lease it for agricultural use, or save it for future municipal needs, it is land that the town has control over. Acquiring these parcels is part of the West Bridgewater Open Space & Recreation Plan. Once these natural resources are lost to development

we cannot get them back."

Climate Can Do:

Drinking Water Without Nano-plastics

Plastic water bottles are filled with tiny bits of plastic called nano-plastics. These are bits of plastic that have broken down so small we cannot see them. But they are there, according to studies by Consumer Reports, Columbia University, University of Missouri, and many others.

The best way to avoid drinking nano-plastics is to use a metal or glass reusable bottle and fill it with filtered tap water.

Reusable water bottles keep you healthy and decrease one major source of nano-plastics in our environment: the disposable water bottle.

This Climate Can Do article was written by Jacquelyn Rose.

The West Bridgewater Police are Reinstating the Citizens Police Academy and the creation of the West Bridgewater High School Cadet Academy!

"At the West Bridgewater Police Department, we believe that the safety and well-being of our community depend on strong partnerships between our officers and the residents we serve. Our commitment to community policing is at the core of everything we do. This approach emphasizes trust, transparency, and collaboration to build lasting relationships with the people of West Bridgewater.

SRO Packard and ASRO Church will be running the first-ever West Bridgewater High School Cadet Academy. This program is designed to give students a fresh perspective on new-age policing and to boost interest in careers in Law Enforcement.

Detective Percival will be running the 3rd “annual” Citizens Police Academy. This program will be offered to adults 21 years or older. The Citizens Police Academy is designed to allow residents to learn more about their Police Departments daily operations, the services we provide, and participate in hands-on training with our officers.

Please be on the lookout for future posts containing applications and more in-depth information about these two programs beginning in early 2025!"

Shop Small

There are oh-so-many benefits to shopping the small local stores in your neighborhood (and even on-line):

  • Your opinion matters. Small businesses provide greater access to product diversity. If they don't have what you want, ask for it. My questions are always along the line of: "Can you tell me where this was made, who made it and how the materials were sourced?"
  • Small Businesses give back to the local economy. According to Civic Economics, “on average, 48% of each purchase at local independent businesses is recirculated locally, compared to less than 14% of purchases at chain stores.”
  • Personalized attention (who doesn't like being pampered?)
  • Small Businesses give back to local organizations. They sponsor the kids sports teams, the school plays and everything in between.

And finally, it feels good to shop locally! You're making dreams come true.
