The CGSA is saddened to announce the sudden passing of Quebec Director Alan Morton on November 5, 2025.
Mr. Morton had recently joined the CGSA Board of Directors and was actively involved in several committees. In October, he participated in our Board meetings in Laval, where he contributed to the discussions and shared valuable insights from turf managers across Quebec. His thoughtful engagement was appreciated, and we were looking forward to his continued involvement.
Mr. Morton was the Superintendent at Club de Golf Valleyfield in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, QC. He had been a dedicated member of the association for many years, both as a Superintendent and as an Industry Affiliate.
His wife, Chantal shares: “If there was anyone that loved the profession, it was him. Being an avid golfer, he not only saw the course from a maintenance perspective, but also with a golfer's eye. He was able to visualize things on the course beyond most people's comprehension. His ability to go in and "fix" some struggling courses was unbelievable. He took so much pride in what he did and loved working on the various courses throughout his career with some highlights being: the Skins game at Le Diable early in his career, managing the course at The Kanawaki Golf Club during the filming of The Greatest Game Ever Played with Bill Paxton, and the Canadian Senior Men's Championship at Le Griffon des Sources, to name a few. And then of course was the opportunity to play The Old Course twice, and given a guided tour of the Clubhouse, including the Trophy Room and all the history of St. Andrew's, and golf in general. Truly, a highlight of his life, which he shared with his best friend and golf buddy.” Adding, “He was so excited to be a part of the CGSA board and the opportunity to share his love for the game.”
There will be a gathering taking place on Friday, November 14, from 5:00-9:00 pm at the Pointe-Claire Curling Club (250 Lanthier Ave, Pointe-Claire).
The family will share a few heartfelt words around 7 pm.
During this gathering the family looks forward to hearing memories, sharing stories and to remember all the joy he brought to our world.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that individuals consider a donation to one of the foundations that were near and dear to Alan. The National Turfgrass Research Foundation or the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence Foundation.
