MRFF FILES LAWSUIT AGAINST VA FOR FAILURE TO RESPOND TO FOIA REQUEST REGARDING CHRISTIANS-ONLY BOOK DISPLAYS IN VA PATRIOT STORES

Yesterday, 10/18/22, MRFF filed a federal lawsuit against the Department of Veterans Affairs for its failure to respond to an April 2022 FOIA request demanding all documents regarding the VA’s exclusive contract with Choice Books LLC, under which Choice Books LLC is the sole bookseller in all VA Medical Center “Patriot Stores.” MRFF has received numerous complaints from veterans across the country, including at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center in Albuquerque, NM where MRFF Founder and President Mikey Weinstein receives his own medical care, about the Choice Books retail book displays containing only Christian books — for veterans, their families (particularly children), and apparently even for their pets, with a title called "Proverbs for Dogs"! In a blatant violation of the Constitution and VA policies, no other reading material besides Christian reading material is available for sale in these government-run VA Patriot Stores.
