Mark your calendars, Holden Evening Prayer Around the World returns this Spring! During April 26-May 2, Holden Village invites Villagers across the globe to come together through music and worship.
Last held in June 2024, Holden Evening Prayer around the World is a virtual event which invites congregations, communities, and individual homes to participate in a shared sacred space.
Holden continues to grapple with a road closure and cancelation of its 2026 season. With many staff members away from their homes and only a small caretaker team in the Village, Holden Evening Prayer Around the World continues to link the community together. Even though geography may separate us, by singing and saying the same words together on the same day, we connect in spirit.
This year we’re recognizing the 40th Anniversary of Vespers ’86, the beloved service composed by Marty Haugen. Haugen wrote Holden Evening Prayer during the winter of 1985–1986 during a musical residency at Holden Village. A simple Lutheran vespers service that follows traditional form while using contemporary and inclusive language, this service has become beloved by many.
An In-Village service will take place during the week of April 26. Although the Village is closed to guests, you'll be able to watch the service via a livestream. You are invited organize an event in your community and participate during any day of the week.
