RIGHT-WING MEDIA HAS A FIELD DAY

WITH MRFF HELPING VA EMPLOYEE GET

“NOT TODAY, SATAN, NOT TODAY” SIGN

REMOVED FROM SUPERVISOR’S DESK

As if Satanists believe in some really scary stuff …

like encouraging benevolence and empathy

and opposing injustice?

From The Satanic Temple’s website

“The mission of The Satanic Temple is to encourage benevolence and empathy, reject tyrannical authority, advocate practical common sense, oppose injustice, and undertake noble pursuits.”

The Seven Fundamental Tenets

of The Satanic Temple

I

One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.

II

The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

III

One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

IV

The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one’s own.

V

Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one’s beliefs.

VI

People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.

VII

Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

From The Satanic Temple’s (TST) FAQ:

DO YOU WORSHIP SATAN?

No, nor do we believe in the existence of Satan or the supernatural. The Satanic Temple believes that religion can, and should, be divorced from superstition. As such, we do not promote a belief in a personal Satan. To embrace the name Satan is to embrace rational inquiry removed from supernaturalism and archaic tradition-based superstitions. Satanists should actively work to hone critical thinking and exercise reasonable agnosticism in all things. Our beliefs must be malleable to the best current scientific understandings of the material world — never the reverse.

WHAT DOES SATAN MEAN TO TST?

Satan is a symbol of the Eternal Rebel in opposition to arbitrary authority, forever defending personal sovereignty even in the face of insurmountable odds. Satan is an icon for the unbowed will of the unsilenced inquirer – the heretic who questions sacred laws and rejects all tyrannical impositions. Our metaphoric representation is the literary Satan best exemplified by Milton and the Romantic Satanists from Blake to Shelley to Anatole France.

In their e-mail to Mikey Weinstein, MRFF’s Air Force veteran, Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) employee client described themself as “an honorably discharged veteran who subscribes to many non-theist teachings (including Satanist).”

And, boy, has the right-wing media taken that

parenthetical “including Satanist” and run with it!

Satanist Veterans Affairs staffer files complaint

over supervisor’s ‘Not today, Satan’ sign

The New York Post, in its typically sensationalistic fashion, begins its article (emphasis added): “A Satanist Veterans Affairs staffer filed a civil rights complaint over their supervisor’s joke sign reading, ‘Not today, Satan, not today’ …”

This is one of two articles that decided to call the supervisor’s sign a “joke,” because we all know how much Christians consider Satan to just be a joke.

Former Fox News personality Todd Starnes makes President Biden pro-satan, writing (emphasis added): “It appears, good readers, that the VBA under President Joe Biden is pro-satan.”

He also appears to question MRFF’s client’s military service with his use of quotation marks: “So is the ‘honorably discharged veteran’ a devout satanist or does he just dabble? So many questions.”

An Air Force Vet Files a Complaint Over a Supervisor’s ‘Not Today, Satan’ Sign. Proving They Don’t Make Satan Worshipers Like They Used To.

By: Jerry Thornton

Thursday, January 25, 2024

Barstool Sports sarcastically laments that Satanists aren’t what they used to be, with paragraphs like: “Now look at them. Oh, how the not-so-mighty have fallen. All they seem to do is whine about how they deserve a statue of the Prince of Darkness next to the Christmas and Hanukah displays on public land, and that's about it. They're just a collection of sad, pathetic loners. Even - and who could've seen this coming 400 years ago - just a bunch of pussies now.”

‘Grotesque Christian supremacist sign’:

Veterans Affairs supervisor ordered to remove

‘Not Today Satan’ plaque from desk

By: Vivek Saxena

American Wire News also cites what Mikey told The Christian Post:

“When asked for a rebuttal [by The Christian Post] to the argument that Satanism should not be treated like other faiths, Weinstein disagreed, arguing that Satanism’s critics ‘probably don’t really understand the full nature of Satanism.’

“‘It’s not sacrificing children at midnight with knives,’ he alleged. ‘Remember, in our perspective, we don’t look at it as to what is good and bad. We look at what is legal and what’s not legal.’”
