As Labor Day approaches and summertime draws to a close,
we remain ever grateful for your support and generosity. Just this month, you changed the lives of 55 of our neighbors by providing them with homes in our safe shelters and transitional apartments. Your support goes far beyond shelter... You are ensuring that they have access to tools and resources to help them break the cycle of homelessness.
We could not be more grateful!

Our guests are thriving in the S4 Program, thanks to YOU!
|
Congratulations to two residents at Evelyn's Place who received offers for and accepted new jobs! Barry was hired by Applebees in Easton to oversee morning maintenance and sanitation at the restaurant, while Will secured a full-time role at Walmart. Another one of our guests in the singles shelter home, Kaili, recently purchased her own vehicle! This milestone in securing transportation
demonstrates the major payoffs of progressing within the S4 Program.
In other very good news, five of the guests at Easton's Promise gained employment! The positions obtained include Customer Service, Cashier, Beauty Advisor, Deli Clerk, and Pharmacy Technician. We wish them well on these promising professional ventures, and will keep our TIS community updated on their progress.
| |
|
With support from TIS Case Managers, two guests marked major steps forward on their journeys by securing new Social Security cards, which will allow them to find employment, qualify for housing, and obtain key personal identification documents as they move forward toward self-sufficiency.
Among the individuals and families who have graduated to Transitional Housing stage of their homelessness recovery, one moved into a two bedroom transitional housing apartment with ample space to welcome her son, and THREE moved into their own housing! We are cheering them on!

Thank you for making all of these successes possible. You are changing lives every single day!

Volunteering with us is a rewarding experience and a powerful way to demonstrate your companyβs commitment to social responsibility and community support.
Our dedicated Volunteer Coordinator, Jesse Johnson, will be delighted to provide information regarding upcoming volunteer opportunities and other helpful details. Life Skills Training is an important component of the S4 Program (Shelter, Stability, Support, Success). In addition to safe shelter and rigorous case management, our staff facilitates a series of workshops aimed at addressing the root causes of homelessness. The goal is to help our guests learn how to avoid the pitfalls that could lead to becoming unhoused again.

ο»ΏThis month, Evelyn's Place guests wrapped up Week 4 of Untangling Relationships, a 12-week class that serves as a guide to understanding and coping with problem relationships and the downsides of codependency. This week's class focused on the "Inner Self", exploring the notion of the "false" and "true" selves that dwell in us all.
On August 21st, fourteen guests took advantage of the opportunity to engage in a career and educational training session led by Mr. Guido Deluca, the Director of Career Planning at Chesapeake College. Sessions like this help TIS guests refine their career paths and make informed decisions about their professional futures.ο»Ώ

We experienced an abundance of good will and generosity at Talbot Interfaith Shelter this August! We received a huge donation of bed and bath linens thanks to the increasingly popular Wildset Hotel in St. Michaels, and are grateful to Wildset General Manager, Veronica Berry, for keeping TIS in mind. Longtime volunteers Mike and Debbie Potter answered the call for window air conditioners and saved the day with FIVE air conditioning units to keep our guests cool during what has turned out to be an extremely hot and humid summer. Thank you!
Our guests are blessed daily with delicious meals, prepared with love by our dedicated volunteers and shared around the dinner table with gratitude and joy. Our house sitters continue to provide relief and stability for our hard-working staff and caring and compassionate fellowship for our guests. Our wonderful partners at Rise Up Coffee Roasters once again gifted the shelters with delicious coffee beans, warming our guests' hearts and fueling them for Success!
TIS' maintenance staff Will and Jesse have completed paint touch-ups at Easton's Promise and secured a new bed frame for one of our family shelter bedrooms. This dream team has wrapped up renovations at a Pleasant Alley apartment, and took care of yard work at another property on Port Street. Our Development and Marketing Assistant, Hudson, spent a fun afternoon at For All Seasons Backpack Giveaway event at Idlewild Park alongside TIS Lip Sync Battle 2024 judge, Easton Mayor Megan Cook, was on hand helping students stock up on school supplies.
Take a look at the slide show below to see just a few of our Team TIS highlights from the month of August!

It's Our Summer Appeal! Your Gift Changes Lives...
While balancing the demands of daily life, family, and relationships, it's easy to overlook the fact that many of our neighbors are struggling with poverty and homelessness. However, with even minor support from people like you, they have the chance to recover and thrive. Your donations are more than just financial contributionsβtheyβre lifelines that provide our neighbors with Shelter,
Stability, Support, and a path to Success.
Earlier this month, we sent YOU some good old fashioned snail mail introducing you to Latesha - a determined guest at Talbot Interfaith Shelter who chose to join us with one goal in mind: to better herself. In case you missed it, her journey began at Evelynβs Place, and she has since transitioned into our supportive Transitional Housing program. Lateshaβs decision to come to TIS was rooted in her desire for structure and stabilityβelements that she found essential for her growth. βSometimes, when we live on our own, we just go about our lives, winging it,β she reflected. But at TIS, the structured environment gave her the direction she needed.
| |
|
One of the standout moments for Latesha was the Money Management class. Learning practical tools to save money and being held accountable by turning in her bank statements motivated her to take control of her finances. These lessons pushed her beyond her comfort zone and sparked a newfound commitment to her financial future. Even now, as she lives in a TIS apartment, Latesha returns regularly for the Core Values class led by DeWayne, the Case Manager at Evelynβs Place. This class offers her a chance to reflect on daily life, revisit important lessons, and explore new topics that contribute to her ongoing growth.
Lateshaβs journey is a testament to the impact of TIS. She has transformed from someone who struggled with responsibilities to a more confident individual who now pays rent, saves money, and reaches out for support when she needs it. βOne big change is that now I open up and donβt isolate when things are going bad,β she shared. This shift in mindset has made a significant difference in her life, and her progress wouldnβt be possible without the generosity of supporters like you. Please consider making a gift today to help more individuals like Latesha achieve their goals and build better futures. Thanks to your support, 12 local families, including 19 children, currently have homes. During our 2023-2024 fiscal year, you helped provide shelter and services to a total of 29 families, including 31 children as young as 4 months old.
TIS belongs to a Continuum of Care network comprised of other Mid-Shore shelters and organizations that serve neighbors experiencing poverty and homelessness. We also aim to help find solutions for these issues through advocacy. For example, Executive Director Julie Lowe is a member of Easton's Attainable Housing Task Force, aimed at addressing the affordable housing crisis.
Thank you for being our partner in the fight against poverty and homelessness in our community. Together, can and will find solutions to ensure that our children and their families have what they need, not just to survive, but to thrive!

We hope you will consider joining the TIS Promise Keepers as a monthly or quarterly donor. We currently have 66 amazing Promise Keepers, with a goal to reach 100 by the end of this year.
If you establish a monthly recurring donation of $10 or more before August 31st, you will be entered into a raffle to win a bushel of late-season crabs provided by our friends at Heavyset Crabs!
| |
|
Thank you so much in advance for considering becoming a TIS Promise Keeper. Your recurring support provides stable, predictable funding, which helps ensure that our guests receive uninterrupted services 365 days a year. We so fortunate to partner with you in the fight against homelessness in our community!
