This Sunday

This Sunday is our monthly in-gathering for the Necessity Pantry at St. Michael's in Independence.

Needed items include shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, disposable razors, shaving cream, bath soap, lotion, deodorant, laundry detergent, toilet paper, feminine hygiene and incontinence products. Cash donations are also gratefully accepted.

Thank you for your generosity in supporting the Necessity Pantry at St. Michael's! So far this year Resurrection has donated $1,325 to the pantry in cash plus many, many in-kind items and countless volunteer hours.

Thank you Joe Owen for your service

Rich Conn is assuming the duties of Joe Owen, who is stepping down as Junior Warden. Rich will also fulfill Joe's unexpired term on the Vestry.

Joe has dedicated a great amount of time the last year overseeing the narthex addition as well as supervising all the building and grounds. Thank you, Joe, for your hard work and dedicated service.

And a warm welcome to Rich Conn, who was elected by the Vestry this week.

Lift will be installed next week

The handicap lift is scheduled to be installed next week, beginning on Tuesday, August 20. Installation will take about 4 days. However, the lift cannot be used until we complete the stairway and railing system and we receive occupancy approval from the City of Blue Springs.

A special thanks to all the volunteers working to finish the woodwork, electrical, ceiling and lighting in the addition. Outside work will also begin soon to install the final siding, drainage pipes, and sump pumps. Finally, we will rebuild the east driveway entrance (again!)

Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding. This project has been a major endeavor and it will be beautiful when it's complete!

"Meet and Greets" in September

The Standing Committee this week announced a slate of four candidates for the ninth Bishop of the Diocese of West Missouri. The election will be held on Saturday, November 9. The next bishop will succeed The Right Reverend Diane M. Jardine Bruce, Bishop Provisional.

The candidates in alphabetical order are:

• The Rev. Jimmy Abbott, Rector, Trinity Episcopal Church, Galveston, TX
• The Very Rev. Amy Dafler Meaux, Dean and Rector, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Little Rock, AR
• The Rev. Dr. Bradley Pace, Rector, St. John’s Episcopal Church, Lafayette, IN
• The Rev. Molly Payne-Hardin, Rector, Trinity Episcopal Church, Watertown, NY

Members of the diocese are invited to meet the candidates during a “meet and greet” (called WESTMODIOlogues) to be held at churches across the diocese during the week of September 16, 2024. These gatherings will be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person. All gatherings will start at 6:00 pm with a light meal followed by discussions at 7:00 pm.
