Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Serving as your District 3 County Commissioner is an honor, and I remain committed to ensuring Tulsa County continues delivering excellent service, improving public spaces, and maintaining open communication with the citizens we serve.

Before highlighting several recent accomplishments, I want to make you aware of the upcoming 101st Street and Garnett Road improvement project. Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, June 15, and the intersection will be closed for up to six months as crews work to improve safety, traffic flow, and flood mitigation in the area. Please be sure to review the project information included in this newsletter and follow Tulsa County's social media channels for construction updates, detour information, and project progress throughout the duration of the work.

Over the past month, we have celebrated a number of positive developments across the county.

New signage at Haikey Creek Park is helping welcome visitors to one of our most popular outdoor destinations, while the addition of a second early voting location at Tulsa Tech's Broken Arrow Campus is providing voters with another convenient option to cast their ballots.

Transparency and communication remain priorities for my office. Through the County Line Podcast and our podcast studio, we continue bringing important conversations directly to the public. Recent guests have included Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond and others who are helping shape our state and county. We have also used the platform to share how our workforce is growing in Tulsa County through programs at OSU Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, and meaningful stories from Tulsa County's past, including the remarkable story of Charles Stamper.

I was honored to attend the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office Fallen Officer Memorial, where we remembered the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our community. Their dedication serves as a lasting reminder of the importance of public service and public safety.

Thank you for your continued trust and support. It is a privilege to serve District 3, and I look forward to continuing the work ahead.

Kelly Dunkerley

91st-101st & Garnett Road Project

Intersection Closure – Monday, June 15

Starting 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟭𝟱 (weather permitting), the 101st & Garnett intersection will be completely closed for the road widening project.

This is a major phase of construction, and the intersection is expected to remain closed for more than six months.

If this is part of your daily commute, now is a good time to start planning an alternate route. Expect detours, extra travel time, and plenty of construction activity in the area.

We know this will be an inconvenience, but these improvements are being made to help accommodate growth and improve traffic flow for years to come.

Project Overview

Tulsa County recently secured a FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant to improve a critical section of roadway along Garnett Road between 91st Street and 101st Street, including the intersection at 101st & Garnett.

This project will address long-standing flooding concerns that frequently impact drivers and nearby businesses during heavy rain events. Improvements will include raising the roadway and intersection to reduce flooding risk while also improving traffic flow and overall safety in the area.

These improvements are designed to make the corridor more resilient during severe weather while supporting continued growth in South Tulsa County.

Why This Project Matters

  • Reduces chronic flooding along Garnett Road
  • Improves driver safety during heavy rain events
  • Strengthens infrastructure along a busy traffic corridor
  • Protects nearby homes, businesses, and emergency access routes
  • Supports long-term transportation improvements in the area

New Signage at Haikey Creek Park

Recently, Commissioner Kelly Dunkerley joined Tulsa County Parks staff to unveil the first of a new series of park entry signs at Haikey Creek Park, marking an exciting milestone for our parks system.

The new signage initiative establishes a unified, modern identity across Tulsa County Parks, creating a more welcoming and recognizable experience for residents and visitors alike. Designed to reflect the pride we take in our parks, the updated signs will help create consistency throughout the county while enhancing the overall appearance of our park entrances.

Haikey Creek Park is the first location to receive the new signage, with additional signs scheduled to be installed at parks across Tulsa County in the coming months.

This project represents the collaboration and dedication of many individuals and departments committed to improving our parks system. Thank you to our Parks team, Administrative Services, and everyone who contributed their time, creativity, and expertise to bring this vision to life.

We look forward to continuing to invest in our parks and providing welcoming spaces for families, outdoor enthusiasts, and all who enjoy Tulsa County's great public spaces.
