Project Update

Advancing toward a new era of high-purity hydrogen & heavy water production

Dear Friends, Partners, Stakeholders, and Supporters,

As we continue building the foundation for America's next generation of hydrogen and heavy water infrastructure, we wanted to share several exciting milestones and provide a look ahead at what comes next.

Project Element FEED Studies Complete

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of the Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) studies for the individual project elements (electrolyzer set-up, heavy water process, etc), as well as the overall project pre-FEED. Thank you to our partners CH-IV, Siemens Energy and Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc. for their excellent work. We are now progressing to the overall project FEED study which we expect to complete in 1H2027.

Completion of this important phase marks a significant step forward in the development of a domestic source of heavy water, a critical material supporting advanced energy, scientific research, and strategic industrial applications. The FEED process has provided the engineering framework, design validation, and project definition necessary to advance toward construction and deployment. The United States last produced heavy water at Savannah River Site in 1982 and demolished the site in 1996. In 2016, we purchased 32 MT from heavy water from Iran. In July of this year, Tim Walsh, Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management, called heavy water “a significant strategic national asset.” We agree!!!

Modular Construction Anticipated to Begin 1H2027

With engineering efforts progressing, preparations are already underway for the next phase of development. Off-site modular construction of our first plant is scheduled to begin during the first half of 2027. By utilizing a modular construction approach, we are working to accelerate deployment timelines, improve construction efficiency, and enhance project execution while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality.

Sharing the Vision Across the Country

While engineering and project development have been advancing behind the scenes, our team has also been actively engaging with communities, policymakers, industry leaders, investors, and potential partners across the United States. Over the past several months, we have had the privilege of sharing Aternium's vision in all three Delaware counties, Kent, Sussex and New Castle. We have met with community groups in Annapolis and Cecil Count in Maryland, to Atlantic City, New Jersey, and onward to Houston and Austin, Texas.

Whether it's speaking at the Hydrogen Americas Summit, celebrating Hydrogen Day with the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Delaware's Center for Clean Hydrogen and Air Liquide, connecting with STEM Educators about the future workforce needs, educating future leaders, or speaking with community groups about fuel flexibility and supply chain security, each conversation reinforces what we have long believed: there is growing enthusiasm for affordable domestic hydrogen production, resilient supply chains, advanced manufacturing, and American leadership in critical energy technologies. We are encouraged by the level of engagement and support we continue to see from stakeholders across the public and private sectors.

Looking Ahead

The months ahead will be transformative as we transition from engineering and planning into execution.

With completion of our heavy water FEED study, continued progress on hydrogen facility engineering, and the start of modular construction on the horizon, we remain focused on delivering infrastructure that strengthens domestic supply chains, supports economic development, and helps enable the next generation of clean energy and advanced manufacturing.

We appreciate your continued support and partnership as we move forward. We look forward to sharing additional updates in the coming months. Stay tuned from some extremely important and exciting announcements over the next 3 months and beyond!

Cracking hydrogen's biggest problem

A tiny startup cracked green hydrogen’s biggest problem by selling a “hidden ingredient” found in every drop of water and using the profits to fund clean fuel production at prices that could make federal subsidies irrelevant.
