Leadership Team Updates

Dear St. Alphonsus Families,

Happy Monday, and happy last week of April! The time is quickly passing and before you know it, we will be celebrating the last days of school. There is still a lot of learning to do and that includes practicing our Lockdown procedure for our school.

We are very pleased to work with the Greendale Police Department to practice our our safety procedures & systems that we put in place last year. We practice a variety of safety procedures which include fire drills, tornado and bad weather drills, and Hold in classroom procedures for medical emergencies. Our next procedural practice will be the Lockdown drill.

A Lockdown is put into place when there is a threat to the school. Most commonly we think of an intruder either outside or inside. We practice what we will be doing in our rooms to make sure that all of the procedural steps are followed, and we can make any necessary changes. The only real way to do this, is to practice a drill.

The staff will be practicing and talking with your children about what to do and why this is important. When your children come home, please talk with them about what was learned and what his/her job is during the drill. This will help subside some of the anxiousness that goes with practicing drills of any kind.

We will experience an actual drill as a school on May 9th. Our school resource officer, Officer Hudson, will be here to lead the drill. Our safety team which includes myself, the Leadership team, both priests, our head of maintenance and our Director of Ministerial Support will be on hand to learn about how a Lockdown works and the role they play in supporting the school. Ms. Ramos plays an integral part as well, having to keep the communication piece flowing.

Ms. Parey is very happy to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have regarding this drill. Thank you for taking the time to read this update! Please contact Ms. Parey via email with questions at any time.

Have a great week!

Best regards,

Ms. Parey, Principal

4th Grade Pioneer Day

The 4th Grade Pioneer Day Tradition continues!

In celebration of learning about Wisconsin history this year, our fourth grade class always celebrates Pioneer day.

They dress like pioneers and learn like pioneers…and even eat like pioneers and churn butter like pioneers! Check out some photos of them playing games in the courtyard in their pioneer getups!

Middle School Trip to War Memorial

Last week our Middle School classes in Grades 5-8 took a trip to the Milwaukee County War Memorial Center!

Students participated in rotating stations on different branches of the military. Students acted as the Fire Department, hitting a training block with a sledgehammer and carrying dummies. A the US Coast Guard station, they hopped on their boat, got to throw a life line, and pull in a "stranded at sea" person on rope. At the Basic Training station, students did the bench press and a kettle bell walk. The Medic Station had a dummy who had sustained "injuries" you might see in combat. Students got to climb in the Army's new vehicles that'll soon replace Humvees, and also spent time interviewing veterans!

Exciting Updates to the Athletic Department!

Dear St. Alphonsus Community,

We are excited to share some significant changes the Archdiocese has approved regarding athletics programs. Starting next school year, 4th grade students will be eligible to participate in all athletics we offer!

Additionally, they have officially made Cross Country a sport offering. We are looking into offering this exciting new opportunity, but we need to find a coach who is willing to help. If you or anyone you know would be interested, please reach out directly to me. If we are not able to identify a coach, we will not be offering it this fall and will look to offer it in the coming years.

These changes open wonderful opportunities for our younger students to engage in sports, develop their skills, and foster a love for athletics from an early age. We believe this will enhance their overall school experience and contribute positively to their growth and development.

We will be looking to open our athletics sign-ups in the coming weeks for the 2025/2026 school year, so if you have students currently in 3rd through 7th grades please be on the lookout for the sign-up announcement!

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for our athletics program.

Cheers!

Nick Warrichaiet

St. Alphonsus Hosts a Successful Track Invitational!

This past weekend, St. Alphonsus hosted another successful Track & Field Invitational! The morning started off chilly but it really was a perfect day for track.

We hosted 18 teams at Greendale High School, and received lots of great compliments about how well organized & fun the event was for both athletes and coaches, as well as spectators.

Thank you to everyone who helped us make this meet happen--it is a great way for St. Alphonsus to gain visibility and shows just how great our small school is!

The Cougar Athletics Store has some new gear!

That's right, you can now get TRACK gear in addition to Basketball stuff, and soon you will also be able to order ahead for Volleyball in the Fall! Anything you see in the store can have either the track or basketball logos on it. Use the drop downs to select your sport!

Vacation Bible School is Back!

This summer, we are again putting on a Vacation Bible School, in conjunction with St. Martin of Tours! The Archdiocese was unable to get a team together to do Totus Tuus as they did last year (due to staffing changes), so we decided to put on our own!

It will be a morning of adventure, learning and fun!

However, in order to make this happen, we need to have volunteers! If you are able to help us, we'd love to have you! All volunteers need to be safeguarded. Please sign up at this link.
