In recent years, the sirens above have revealed a critical vulnerability. The above ground Emergency Department was never designed to shelter staff and patients from rocket threats. Every time there is a siren, patients were rushed to modified underground parking lots to be treated, but critically injured patients or those on ventilators can’t be moved.
Laniado Hospital is digging deeper to complete a fully protected underground hospital where patients can be treated safely no matter what is happening overhead.
